Hi all.
I'm an Australian educated RN who obtained licensure in Maryland and Vermont in 2010. I completed two supplemental courses (in Australia) in pediatrics and obstetrics as my undergraduate hours were deficient.
I am still actively licensed in Maryland and have been working there for past 5 years. If I want to become licensed in California, do I have to do more supplemental courses even though I am already licensed in another US state?
Thanks

CA is notoriously hard on endorsing from another state or even licensing when trained in another country. The only way to find out is by application as CA make their own decisions based on what is provided and they will decide whether to accept your courses or not. Last I heard they was not accepting Deakin courses so if that is where you did your courses then there may be an issue
Yeah I did my courses through Deakin Professional Development Unit back in 2009. I do wander if the fact I've been registered and practicing in Maryland for 5 full-time years would make a difference in my case. Otherwise I guess that would mean repeating those same courses again, but this time in California not looking forward to that.
As far as I am aware CA will only make a determination based on your transcripts and not nursing experience. Many US nurses also have issues with CA if they did Excelsior. I would say best thing to do is talk to the BRN and actually try and get something from them

How soon until you move? I'd recommend starting to discuss this with the BON in CA immediately. If you have some time, you can research your education options and maybe get started in MD before you move. Maryland has great universities. If you don't have a Bachelor's degree, you might be able to do an RN-BSN program here (in Maryland) before going to Cali, and then you'll kill two birds with one stone - license in Cali and degree advancement.
Good luck to you!
