I would gauge most Texas schools about the median throughout the country, if you have a choice I would try to enroll your children in one of the smaller schools around Dallas.
So far my 3 children have been to school in 3 different states: Texas (2 different school systems), Mississippi, and Maryland.
I would rate Texas in the middle of those two and Mississippi at the bottom overall d/t their education at the higher grade levels. Sorry I don't know anything about Arizona....We haven't been stationed there..not yet anyways...lol

Dallas isd is on the news a lot , and it is never good news.

Public schools in TX have many problems as do many public schools in other states. It is like healthcare - everyone is being forced to do more with less and still look like they provide quality. If you want a better guarantee of good schools you should be looking at private schools.
I have numerous family/friends that are teachers in TX. They no longer are allowed to teach a lot of the important things to kids anymore. Kids are graduating from high school and are illiterate. The teachers now spend the majority of time trying to teach the kids how to pass the TAKS test. Teachers all over TX are being bullied and threatened if they do not pass children, even if the children do not turn in any schoolwork for an entire semester. Teachers are told to change grades so that it does not look like students are doing poorly. They are told to get their students to pass the TAKS test at any cost but when they are caught cheating and giving students answers the teachers are hung out to dry. Many school districts in TX are bullying the experienced teachers so that that they will quit. Then brand new teachers are hired at low wages. New teachers are often young, and more susceptible to following the unethical and illegal "suggestions" given to them by their principals or school superintendents. Many of these new teachers have little instruction in how to be a successful teacher. Due to the "shortage" of teachers, anyone with a bachelor's degree can take a few quick courses and be certified to become a teacher. And these courses have nothing to do with teaching the people HOW to teach.
I still believe that you are being unrealistic in looking for this marvelous place you want to believe exists. There is good and bad everywhere. You will find it difficult to move somewhere and have everything be wonderful. There is no place in the world that has everything good about it. That is why you must decide that if you are going to move, you move. Once you get there you choose the best of of what you find there. You will likely have to sacrifice one thing for another, such as living in a very small house that is affordable in order to live in an area that has good schools but the cost of living is high. You may have to settle for much higher nurse patient ratios than you find acceptable in order to live where there are better schools. You have to decide what is more important to you and make your decisions accordingly.
