For those getting ready to go into a nursing program this fall...

Do you ever mention that you are starting nursing school when you go in to get your immunizations, drug screen, etc.? And when you do that, do the nurse or nurses treat you different? I have had 2 different experiences, I won't go into detail, but one nurse had one of those "Oh you're all bright eyed and bushy tailed, eh? Not for long" attitudes. Then there was one, that once I mentioned it, she was trying to tell me EVERYTHING about what she was doing, using a ton of words I didn't understand(That's not the way she was talking to the girl who was in there before me)LOL,:chuckle I actually thought it was cute...she sounded excited for me. Well, I was just wondering if any of you had experienced anything like that so far. Have a good day!

When I got my physical at my doc office the NP who was there was really nice and said good luck to me and then when I was walking up front she was telling all of the nurses who we passed by that I was going to nursing school and they all said if I needed anything just let them know and good luck. It was really nice of them.

On the other hand a few years ago, a couple of nurses actually told me not to be a nurse because eventually I will hate it and if they could change my mind, they would.

Specializes in Operating Room.

NKA: No known allergies. LOL

I have had nothing but good experiences from my Dr. (former boss) and his staff.

Everytime I go in they ask how school is going. The medical assistants ask questions b/c they wish they could advance, the nurses because they know how rewarding it is.

Yes, there will be pros and cons, but that's in every job. Don't let negative thoughts bother you...form your own opinions. :)

Good luck to you all.

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

I usually request Dr. so and so who happens to be a NP. I absolutely love her and take her anyday. When I mentioned it to her she hugged me. :)

I have been contemplating going to nursing school for some years now and I'm finally going to do it. I was a liitle discouraged being 31 years old until I looked at this website. I have been inspired.
