For those that DON'T like HHC

Published

What is it about homehealth that you don't like? Is it the pay, the paperwork, the patients? I'm considering making the jump to HH, because after a year and a half of med surg I've realized that its never going to change and will probably get worse, and HH seems to have all the things I've been looking for. Thanks!

The things that I don't like about hh are the same things I would not like, and have not liked, about employment elsewhere. When your employer takes advantage of you, plays you for a fool, cheats you of earnings, lies through their teeth, shows you less regard than the dirt under their feet, those types of things. The only thing that would be specific to hh is the "guilt trip" tactic, designed to make you do something that is not in your best interest, "because oh, the poor, poor client's family needs you, or this, or the world".

I Have been a home care nurse for the past 13 years..Home care is not what it use to be like...The hospital are discharging very sick patients, mainly because of the insurance, nurses in the hospital are saying let home care do it or deal with it, I get paid per visit but when your first visit consist of one hour vanco, half an hour zosyn and lets throw in a wound vac, your there fo ever,, my service delivery leader has no clue how long these visits take,,divide our small per visit rate and were working for nothing.. it's not fair....

I do like working HH but do not like lack of supplies in pt. home and ditto to the "guilt" factor. Also dealing with pt. family members who do not value my skills and try to take advantage.

I've been a home health field nurse, admissions nurse and field case manager... at different times.

Hated "case managing"...I was not trained adequately for this position, was given 17 patients became extremely overwhelmed and refused to continue doing it. I would consider doing it again with a different company, but it put a bad taste in my mouth for sure.....

Well, thanks for the input. I've done a week of orientation and so far, I love it. Still have to be checked out on a wound vac but no big deal, I've done a few before. I like it ALOT, I can see where a bad day at HHC is still better than a good day at the hospital. I already did an Oasis SOC and an Oasis Discharge. I don't see what the nashing of teeth is all about, just answer the questions. So, calliotta (sp) please repost this thread in 6 months and we'll see how I feel then ;)

For me, its all about the paperwork. Everything else I love, but the paperwork is obsurd. My agency actually takes good care of us employees, I have a wonderful boss, but Id like to shove the paperwork into a drain somewhere! lol. I hope you like your new job. Good luck!!!!!!!!!
