Foot in the Door!

I will be starting the Nursing Program in Fall, it will be a ASN program at a community college. I want to be a L&D nurse. I am trying to get a job as a Unit Clerk in L&D at one of the local hospitals here.

What courses/certifications could I take to make my chance better? I was thinking about taking a NRP certification class if I can. I am starting a CNA class "CNA's progress through nursing program faster." I have medical terminology already. I was also thinking about volunteering at the hospital. Can anyone think of any other desirable skills for units clerks or any L&D support positions?

Thank You so much!!

CONGRATS! i think the CNA class will help you a lot more with the clinical stuff but if you can get into L&D with being a UC that's great too!

Congrats! And welcome to allnurses.com!

That's great. You can still get a lot of info. from being the u.s. and maybe go for a tech job or something after a while. If they know you're enthusiastic and a good worker, maybe this will help you get into the unit as an rn after graduation. Best of luck w/ everything!
