Fog Out

Does anyone have a recommendation on anti fog? We use "fog out" and the surgeons say the sponge makes bubbles on the scope lens and want us to put it in a cup, which is against our policy.

try hooking the insufflation up to a different trocar. everone always hooks it up to the trocar the camera goes in. I hook it up to a different trocar and have less problems

we use fred and i never use the sponge. not only are there the occasional bubble, but the sponge gets bloody and nasty. i typically throw it out, and wind up dripping the fred onto the end of the camera.

Insufflation being on the same trocar as the camera aggravated the fog problem. The coolness of the Co2 mixed with the body heat creates a fogged scope.

I always FRED the scope as soon as i take the scope out of the box. Any bubbles are brushed off. The sooner i FRED, the better results. And typically, by doing this, FRED isn't needed any other time during the case, unless a teeny pumper hoses off the scope.

You can squirt a little FRED liquid on a sponge and use that to wipe off the scope too.

We also preheat the scopes in a warm water bath. But the problem really seems to be with the surgeon. Some complain constantly while others never have a problem.

I notice that too. We have one that ALWAYS has a fog problem.

True that, I can be looking at the monitor & see a clear Pic, yet some surgeons are just freak'in out saying that can't see anything. I'm thinking get your :specs: checked, LOL.

We have one that wears an Optivisor for every case, even hernias.

Kinda scares me that he still drives ya know.....
