Hi,
I'm in my second year in nursing school and we were asked to explain when it is appropriate tim for a nurse to perform focused assessment and this is my first time of hearing this.
Thanks.

1. Please consider posting homework questions in the students forum.
2. Google what a focused assessment is
3. Think about what you think the answer is and then post it and ask for feedback.

Do you understand what a focused assessment is? I just Googled "focused assessment" and found lots of info. Why don't you read that if needed, and then if you really don't know, share your best educated guess. Then we'll jump in.

A focused assessment is used to further investigate a patient's complaint as well as to do reassessments based off what was abnormal in previous assessments.

From the ED perspective, a focused assessment is one that evaluates systems associated with the patient's chief complaint rather than all body systems.
The appropriate time is upon the initial contact with the patient.
