I have 9 years experience as a RN. I am graduating soon from NP school. I have heard from several of my preceptors that I need to find another town to practice in after graduation due to low wages. My question is... What is an a acceptable hourly wage for a new FNP in a clinic setting? I don't want to get taken advantage of as a new NP by not knowing what I'm worth. Any advice would be appreciated. If you are in the North Alabama/southern Tennessee Area, do you mind sharing your salary info or if you were offered any other jobs you didn't take what did you get offered? I have heard 34-36/hr in this area is what a lot of people have been offered...also this area seems to be saturated with NPs. Thanks!
Just curious, you talk of going into leadership vs. NP because of pay? I am in leadership and realize this is not what I like to do (even though my staff think it is ). I am starting an NP program in Jan and cannot wait to get back into what I came into nursing for the patients not the drama...I say go where you will find the balance of enjoying what you do and pay
I'm talking about going into leadership so I can find a job. I said the market is saturated with NPs in my area. And actually I want to get the leadership degree to go into a nursing support position such as case management, quality, education, etc. I don't have any interest in management of a unit. In the hospital where I work, the nursing support positions with MSN degrees have comparable salaries to NPs.
That's an awful low wage for a lot of responsibility.To put things in perspective, the retail clinic here pay $58/hr plus productivity.
The avg NP salary according to the Advance survery in the South (inclds TN, AL) is $107k (which includes benefits), TN/AL are in the 91-93k according to the nursejournal survey.

There are many different ways that productivity is calculated: by RVUs (relative value units), by a percentage of the billing received, number of patients seen per day/week/month, etc. I think the local retail clinics have small bonuses based on patient numbers and vaccinations and such.

Georgia pays about the same as TN and AL. Somewhat more in the Atlanta metro area. That said, we have a glut of NP's, so it is a difficult market here. I would leave if not for my kids.
