What are the recommendations for receiving the H1N1 FluMist if you work with a high risk population, such as peds?

From the CDC:

Can people receiving the nasal-spray flu vaccine LAIV pass the vaccine viruses to others?

In clinical studies, transmission of vaccine viruses to close contacts occurred only rarely. The current estimated risk of getting infected with vaccine virus after close contact with a person vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine is low (0.6%-2.4%). Because the viruses are weakened, infection is unlikely to result in influenza illness symptoms since the vaccine viruses have not been shown change into typical or naturally occurring influenza viruses.
Can contacts of people with weakened immune systems get the nasal-spray flu vaccine?
People who are in contact with others with severely weakened immune systems when they are being cared for in a protective environment (for example, people with hematopoietic stem cell transplants), should not get the nasal spray vaccine, including the 2009 H1N1 nasal spray vaccine if they will come into contact with the severely immunocompromised person within 7 days of vaccination. People who have contact with others with lesser degrees of immunosuppression (for example, people with diabetes, people with asthma taking corticosteroids, or people infected with HIV) can get the nasal spray vaccine.

That is exactly what I wanted. I couldn't find it on the CDC or WHO sites. Thanks!

CDC on CNN said that people who are getting the FluMist, the live attenuated vaccine, may be contagious for a period of 21 days.....that's a long time to be quarantined or a long time to spread the flu!

.I worry about the nurses who are giving that vaccine and are working so close to it themselves. When the have shown a nurse spraying it into the patients nastrils, I do not see her wearing gloves or a facial mask of any kind.

So, I assume she is literally being vaccinated over and over again.....I doubt if any nurse is holding her breath while administering the Flu Mist........I"d like to see the stats come forth on this maybe six months from now. To see how many nurses giving the flu vaccines and in particular the Flu Mist......will be immune or have gotten one heck of case of flu later!

I doubt if they are even testing the people either to see if they have the H1N1 or the Seasonal flu.

I wish President Obama would get the medical records up and running....that could use that as a way to track patients in a sort of clinical trial way......to get accurate stats,

How many got the flu after vaccination

How many didn't get the flu if they didn't get vaccinated,

how many got the flu who didn't get vaccinated

How many got the "muscle melting diseaes" after the flu vaccine or after the flu or did they present with the disease process and didn't have the flu but had gotten the vaccine.....

How many are getting the mutated flu virus?

How many complications are being presented and what are they??

How many deaths in each USA state, USA nation and country......

End Of Day Summary for Monday, October 19, 2009 (FluCount.org): During the past week, 409 new swine flu deaths were confirmed across the world (average of 58.4 deaths/day), resulting in a 16.2% increase over the death toll last week. Brazil, still adding to their death tally, accounted for 196 of those deaths - or 48% of the deaths this week. Coming in second this week is The United States, confirming 82 new H1N1 deaths, bringing their death toll to exactly 1,000.

In the US, the vaccine has arrived at many states, but there will continue to be a shortage of supply in the immediate future. Health officials across the nation are expecting less than 10% of the vaccine supply they were initially anticipating.

:nurse:As previously stated, there is some concern among many people relating to safety issues of the new H1N1 vaccine.

Although there have been few side effects documented thus far, official testing has been very limited.

You know this will never happen, as it would show the "facts" as they are/aren't. And would be skewed to show what they wanted anyway....

I am administering seasonal flu injections and H1N1 injections and mist to employees only at a large hospital. I use gloves, although I did see something somewhere stating that it was not necessary, perhaps something on the CDC or the actual vaccine insert. We are only administering the mist to non-clinical employees at this time. It would be great if we could give everyone the injectable vaccine, but we were only able to get a very limited number of doses, and we have an abundance of the mist. Clinical staff can only have the mist if they meet the criteria, and they will be out of patient care for 72 hours. I personally think that we are being hypercautious, as according to the CDC, transmission is rare. I understand that H1N1 mist is brand new, but not more so than this years seasonal mist, and the year before that, and the year before....

Accurate epidemiological statistics on this pandemic are important and hopefully public health officials are collecting such information that can be analyzed later. Although I am not sure sure what the link to a shopping site, livingquests.com, has to do with collecting and analyzing data about this pandemic.
