Does anyone know the reason for preloading Moms with LR before oxytocin infusion during induction?

LR is used for isotonic hydration, to replace electrolytes, extra-cellular fluid losses, and in mild to moderate acidosis (the lactate is metabolized into bicarbonate which counteracts the acidosis).

You bolus a mom with 500-1000 ml of LR before the epidural to increase her volume; therefore minimizing hypotension that accompanies the epidural anesthesia. Hope this helps.

Oxytocin can cause fluid overload, and CHF, so you need to watch fluid status, the bolus is more likely for the epidural because someone is anticipating she will want an epidural soon after the Pit kicks in. Fluid overload issues are usually with high doses over a long period with pitocin, so initially it's not such a big concern.
Oxytocin (Pitocin) is given to induce labor or stop postpartum hemorrhage.
