flu shots

Published

i got accepted into the nursing program at my college. and they only give 2 weeks to complete and turn in all the requirements to reserve the seat or they'll give it to someone next in the list.

i have completed and turned in all my things and the school of nursing is so uptight about getting flu shots. so today i went ot walgreens and they refused to give me flu shot beause i recently just had a ppd test last week which was also required for the program. the pharmacist said that i cant get a flu shot till after 4 weeks after the ppd. i only have 3 more days to finsh everything.

what should i do? how should i sort this out?

I would suggest calling the nursing department at your school and discuss it with them

Contact your school's nursing program and explain to them the situation. I am sure they will be able to accept you into the program as long as you get the flu when the four weeks are up. The nursing program usually understands certain circumstances like that and work with you. The reason why they might be able to work with you is that you may not be attending clinicals until later in the semester so you won't be needing it until you actually attend clinicals.

Should I go to another place that offer flu shots? Or will they say the sane thing that there has to be 4 weeks gap between vaccinations and skin tests?

I'm going to tell the nursing department about this tomorrow. I hope it's gonna be ok.

Thx guys.

That's weird because I went to walgreens a couple weeks ago to get my flu shot after a week from getting my tb shot. They didn't question it at all.

Yes call the nursing program & inform them of the dilemma. But also start calling around to other places to see if you can get your flu shot elsewhere.

Really? The pharmacist even showed me on the paper that I filled out for the shot the part about the 4 week rule or something. I'm confused.

And I don't know about going to other places cause I already paid walgreens for the flu shot. They're mAking me come back in January to get it.

But I guess its probably okay since I went to the nursing department today and one of the admin told me that it can wait but i should have it before I go to clinicals. But she didn't give any kind of note or something should I just go by her word? I'm confused lol

I'm probably just being paranoid.

GET IT IN WRITING. People say different things, and someone else may say something different later. If you don't have written proof it's your verbal word against theirs. It can never hurt to get something in writing, but it can sure do harm sometimes if you don't.

Just go to the CDC website. There are certain things that shouldn't be done right after the other, example is a MMR and tb test. Those are recommendations by CDC. She's a pharmacist, they are very smart people and have years of knowledge about mixing meds.
