Tampa/W. Coast Students Roll Call!

U.S.A. Florida

Per Mave's request... here's a post for all Tampa and W. Coast students! :)

Where are you studying? And when did you start/ or will start?

Specializes in Ortho/Neurosurgical.

Hey there, I go to SPC myself. I'm sponsored by Morton Plant though, I love it so far, its harder in some ways and easier in others.....it's just alot on the plate all at once. For your first semester at SPC you will pay about 1k for your books, but it is well worth it to come out with a fully transferrable ASN.

Hey Tampa Bay/West Coast Nurses!

Margaretptz - I graduated PHCC Port Richey in 1999! It's a great program. You are going to LOVE the instructors. Believe it or not, I JUST took my NCLEX last week...and passed it, after being out of school for 8 years! That says a lot for my education, doesn't it? Enjoy every second of it! What an inspiration that you are doing this at 55 years old! And I thought taking my NCLEX at 40 was crazy! :roll Good for you! Kick butt!

Does anyone know HOW long it takes for your license to come after the NCLEX is over?? I am salivating, waiting for it! I want it...like, yesterday!!!

Cher.

hi everyone,

i am new to this forum and would like to make some friends. I sent emails and privite messages to some of you already. i need some help and advice from you.

I am moving to lake-o-land in summer, it is to the north of Tampa. I am also finishing my pre-nursing classes here in NJ now. My GPA is good, now it is 3.7 and i have good chance to save it like this. I applied to SPC for now and am accepted to the college, and will start to study there from fall 2007 semester for sure. I didnt apply for a program there yet, i am waiting for my last classes be finished and if i have time to apply before the deadline for fall 2007, i will, if not, i will apply for spring 2008.

This is my situation for now. I also consider HCC ans USF. maybe you can tell me what other colleges offer nursing program ( Asossiate degree, BSN, 2nd degree BSN) in this area? How are them? HOw competitive are they? HOw is it difficult to get into the program with GPA like mine?

i would be very grateful for any information

Best,

Specializes in cardiac, ortho, med-surg.

hey all!

at last west coast speaks! i graduated charlotte county at the tech center in 2003. let me tell you people, since moving to tn after being hurricaned out in 2004 by charley, i found out an interesting tidbit of info. apparently up here in knoxville, there is a deep respect for florida nurses. they believe if you can get through a florida nursing school, you can handle nursing anywhere. we are known for having the toughest nursing schools to graduate from. for this we should all be proud! i am almost done with my rn here, and let me tell you, it is the easiest program. due to time and work schedule i had to start my last few credits with excelsior, but it too is a breeze because of the strong foundation given to me by my instructors back home. be proud and stand strong. no state has a perfect system, but i can honestly speak for where i have been and my hospital is the best ( before it got destroyed anyway) best of luck to you all!:w00t:

oh and p.s. if for some reason you do leave the state, keep your home license active...it is not only cheaper at renewal time than to cancel, but it sure looks good on an application anywhere else!!!:thankya::nurse:

Guys, i have a question to SPC students- at what campus and at what time do they offer nursing program ?

I just got into USF's accelerated program for this summer - anyone else?

Specializes in ER preceptorship, almost a year on PCU..

I start USF upper division this summer. =D

Awesome! I already got my shots and dropped off my letter of intent, and can't wait until orientation - is yours on 4/10 also? I think we take similar classes first semester, at least.

Same orientation date. I didn't even get my forms in the mail until today!!! I dropped the intent to enroll form at the office an hour ago, went to SHS to get the TB test and was told Thursday is the only day they can't do them u_u. So I'm going in tomorrow morning for that, and I've got a Red Cross CPR course scheduled for the day before orientation (I'm certified, but I lost my card). It's gonna be a fun week....

I don't think USF accepts the Red Cross CPR class. You have to take a class certified my the American Heart Association unless they've changed that stupid rule. I'm in the 2nd semester of USF's 2nd BSN program. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Oh, crap. I do have AHA CPR certification -- that's the card I lost! I wasn't able to find a place that teaches it w/them so I signed up for this Red Cross class... Has anyone asked to see your card, or do they take your word for it? Thanks for the warning! =)

You're welcome. When I started (last fall), they wanted an actual copy of the card. They've since changed the student health form, so they may just take your word for it. I'm not sure. I took my BLS cert at All Children's, but that may be too far for you if you live in Tampa (I live in St. Pete). If you've already taken the class but just lost the card, you should be able to get a copy from the AHA. They may keep copies on file. Good luck!
