It is my understanding that I have to take out a malpractice insurance, what is this all about? Did you have to look about the background check on your own? Does the school supply the uniforms and the stetoscope? Please tell me all about it.
When you get your acceptance letter, you will get a big packet of information. The application for malpractice insurance is included. It's only $20 and you can fax the application in. No big deal.
You will also receive info regarding the background check. There will be a fingerprinting card that you will need to have completed. Any police station can take your finger prints for you. You then have to turn that in to the nursing school with a check. I believe it was about $20. The school of nursing takes care of the rest.
The uniforms have to be ordered from Hellen's Uniforms here in Tallahassee. There will be an order form enclosed with your acceptance letter. You could probably fax the form to Hellen's, if you know your sizes. You are responsible for purchasing a stethoscope. You can get a kit w/ stethoscope, pen light, scissors, carrying case, and some other goodies from Hellen's when you order your uniform. That's what I did. You have to buy at least two sets of uniforms and a lab coat. When all was said and done I spent around $300. That included uniforms, lab coat, shoes and my stethoscope kit.
There will also be a medical form that you'll need to have completed. If you don't have it all, then now would be a good time to start collecting your shot records. You'll need to have the standard immunizations, including Hepatitis B and a TB skin test.
Don't let all the information they send you overwhelm you. It totally stressed me out at first, but I managed to get everything done in time. If you have any more questions, just let me know. I'm happy to help!
