FCCJ/FSCJ nursing program HELP!!!

U.S.A. Florida

Published

hi and thanks in advance for anyone who can answer my question... i attend fccj or should i say fscj now!! i am a couple of classes away from entering the nursing program there and i wanted to know what do i have to do before i get into the nursing program...i know there is test i am supposed to take but how do i study for it?? and also the last three classes i have to take are: human and growth development, a&p2, and microbiology should i take those seperatly or together i heard they were very hard...if anybody has any suggestions please let me know

I took all 3 my last term before applying to the nursing program. I did just fine, it does depend on your instructors. The 2 instructors I had are both really good. If you get them you will learn and comprehend a lot. Both of them are at south campus.

As far as the test goes (PSB-NAT) there are test prep books available. I used Kaplans Nursing school entrance exam 3rd edition. It has some practice tests you can take to help you focus on the area you need to concentrate on.

Hope you find this info helpful.

For Human Growth & Development, take it online with Prof T. G. It's the easiest class I've ever taken yet I still learned. A&PII and Micro are very involved, I have taken them separately (took A&PII last semester, now taking Micro) so I can't advise on how doable it is.

thanks guys for all of the help. i have another question for those of you who didnt have insurance when u needed to get all physicals, titers and anything else that you had to do before the nursing program how much $ does that run you?? im pretty sure its expensive but i jus wanted to kno from someone that has been thru this already

You can check Solantic out I got everything I needed from them and total it cost me about $280. For the money I paid I got Varicella, MMR, DTaP, HepB, and PPD, it will be cheaper if you get the titer for the HepB because the titer is only like $30 versus getting the full series of shots which is $73 per shot. I chose not to do the titers for the other shots because some of the titers were WAY more than the actual shot. They also will do a physical for like $55. Oh and also check out I believe some place on Dunn Av (maybe Baptist Primary Care) and see what price they can give you for what you need. Check the thread on here under Regions, Florida and you may find a thread that has more information or additional places that you can compare before making your decision. I hope this helps.

I heard that it's really hard to get into the program and they only accept people who get nothing but straight A's, and once you do get into the program, if you even get a B in a class, they fail you?? Does anyone know this to be untrue?

i have heard that too!

Don't get the Physical or PPD until you are accepted.

If you want to do the titers a little early you should be safe. The most affordable place my class found was Northside Medical, right down the street from FSCJ North Campus. For the Physical, MMR Titer, Varicella Titer, T-Dap, PPD, and Drug screen it only costs $188, and they are so used to handling FSCJ nursing students that error is almost eliminated. Mention FSCJ nursing and they know what's up.

You can also invest in a stethoscope, BP cuff, 2 pair of kakhis, 2 pair of white scrub bottoms, a passport photo from CVS, and CPR Cert from AHA for Medical Professionals.

I hope this helps, and until you apply focus on APII and Micro because they will kick your butt if you let it.

E,

Partial truths. :)

You do not need straight A's to get into the program, especially for Days. However, you do need to have a competitive score. Try to get your points over 200 and you should be fine. So, calculate your points from the classes you've taken and then figure out what you need on the NAT to get over 200. Last, give yourself time to retake it if need be.

Once in the program the stakes are raised. The grading scale is skewed, and anything under 80% is failing.

Focus on what you need to do and inform yourself on the process. :)

Sugarbee....what do you mean by "days" being different? Different from what? Nights? The requirements are different? I don't understand.

Thanks

The requirements are the same, but it tends to be more competitive to get a spot. There are only 24 seats, you'll still get a spot in the program but it may be for days.
