  1. I am currently in Med/SurgI and yes it is alot of material but, what I do is I utilize the CD that came with my book and my book also has a website that works with my med/surg book and I utilize that. I try to devote an hour daily strictly to the NCLEX style questioning for the section that we are going over. The ones I get wrong I review the rationale to see why the answer that I picked is NOT the best one because usually there a 2-3 pretty good choices and just be sure that you take the time to understand what the question is asking and which is the BEST answer for the scenario presented in the question. Don't give up!!! You didn't get this far on good looks alone! LOL I hope this helps and I will pray that you continue to make it through.
  2. I know that when we do our nursing care plans that we can't have a medical diagnois because as nurses we aren't allowed to diagnois because it is not within our scope. Now we can use NANDA approved diagnois. Since your CI wants you to focus on the skin tear I would look to see what some of the actual medical diagnois' are. I would use something like Impaired skin integrity r/t altered nutrition, with this dx you know that poor nutrition can be a cause (etiology) of the skin tear. Another that may work is Impaired skin integrity r/t immobility. I hope this helps you to get the ball rolling. Good luck!!!
  3. CONGRATS!!!!!!! All your hard work has paid off and now it is time to begin your true calling. I can't wait for Aug 9, 2010...I will be in your shoes!!!!!
  4. You can check Solantic out I got everything I needed from them and total it cost me about $280. For the money I paid I got Varicella, MMR, DTaP, HepB, and PPD, it will be cheaper if you get the titer for the HepB because the titer is only like $30 versus getting the full series of shots which is $73 per shot. I chose not to do the titers for the other shots because some of the titers were WAY more than the actual shot. They also will do a physical for like $55. Oh and also check out I believe some place on Dunn Av (maybe Baptist Primary Care) and see what price they can give you for what you need. Check the thread on here under Regions, Florida and you may find a thread that has more information or additional places that you can compare before making your decision. I hope this helps.
  5. Hi all, I just wanted to comment on the poster that said all schools (Keiser, Sandford, Concorde, etc.) were all scam schools, this is incorrect. Just because an institution is not for you doesn't mean that it is a scam. These "scam" schools are career colleges which means they cater to the working adult. The tuition is more expensive at these institutions because most of these schools are based out of another state and you are paying out of state tuition. FSC/FCCJ does offer their program at an affordable rate, but the time that you waste waiting on getting accepted after you have busted your butt taking pre-req with no guaranteed seat, no. These other schools once you have been accepted you are in the program and you take your pre-reqs with your core courses, you finish faster and can begin working as a nurse. As far as the accreditation goes, before any school can offer a nursing program they must FIRST petition the state board of nursing and the curriculum has to be approved, once the curriculum has been approved the students enrolled in that program are under provisional accreditation until 2 classes have successfully graduated with 24 passing the NCLEX. Transferring of credits is possible but it has to be with another private institution. Whenever faced with choices ALWAYS do your due diligence to gather all the information possible in order to make the best and most informed decision. I am proud to be a student of one of the so called "scam" schools because at ANY given time I can call up my director of nursing and talk to her about ANYTHING, she is always available. If she thinks something is going on with you she will approach you to see if there is anything that she can do to assist you and best of all her last 10 nursing classes graduated and she has a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. I guess the old adage is true, you get what you pay for. Proud Sanford-Brown Nursing student graduating Aug 2010!!!
  6. Chamberlain just opened a campus in Jacksonville, Fl and they are offering only the BSN no options available here currently for RN's. The BSN program is $50k and is 3 years long. I don't know of anyone that has completed their program but they are basically the same, you are only completing courses to satisfy the degree requirement for your bachelors'. Most programs offered for nurses wanting to get their BSN is completely online and most a pretty expensive. I hope this helps and good luck!
  7. You have so many options to choose from and all could work for you. You have narrowed down the fact that you know that you definately want to work with pregnant women. Go to see the counselor tomorrow to help you weigh your options and find the best fit for you between the DMS and Nursing. If you really want something quick I would say go for CNA, which is only a few weeks, become certified and begin working as a CNA. From there if I were you begin taking pre-reqs...shoot for the stars go for it you can do WHATEVER you want!!! I understand that a big part of your struggle is also the fact that you didn't want to be away from your baby and I understand that ( I have a 12 month old and I started the ADN program in Jan) but your child is young and in the end you will be proud. Go see the couselor tomorrow and make you decision and whatever you do DON'T give up!! I hope this helps and may you and your family be BLESSED.
  8. I can agree with most of the responses that nursing school is not HARD but it truely is total consumption of your time. You must be organized, have your game plan established and stick to it! I am a mother of 5, I don't work (though I would like to) and I explained to my kids what is going on and that I need their help to make this work. Everyone is on board. I start clinicals next week and with school around the corner it's going to be like everybody is in school so if there are some things in my scheduling that needs to be tweaked then it can and thing can continue as planned. It is GREAT that you are looking trying to see what it is like because I am sure that you can take something from each one of the post. Congrats on beginning nursing just plan, plan, plan because you don't get to choose your schedule. The curriculum is already planned and established and when the program begins your instructor will be implementing. If you can get your pre-req's out of the way then that would be great. I am in an accelerated ADN program of 18mths and boy I am I stretched, but I know in the end it will be well worth it! You can do it!! You have made it this far, there will be challenges and hills to climb you may get weary but just press your way. I always think of my kids and I press my way. Good luck and may GOD bless you and all your endeavors
  9. If you are focused and make going to nursing school a priority you will make it. We all have our weak spots and at some point something may seem overwhelming, and when it does take a step back and re-evaluate. It is a challenge and as one of the other posts state it does consume you because you want to understand and be the best nurse that you can be. Just make sure that you have a support system in place and that you will have little time to devote to anything outside of nursing school. I think you will do well. It takes a special person to be a GREAT nurse and by you inquiring to see what you getting into shows that you don't just jump into things blindly. I hope that you get in and be encouraged.
  10. You definately have to step back a moment and take a deep breath. Once you have done that formulate a plan of attack and follow that from this point going forward. Trust me at some point and time we all feel overwhelmed with situations that face us. I suggest (if your teacher doesn't mind) recording the lectures and listening to them while driving, while relaxing, where ever you can put ear buds in and this information will become embedded and it is a good way to stay on top of things. Devote a about 30-60 minutes daily to each of the topics at hand. Read over the notes ..the highlights of the chapter and move on. If you have made it to the second semester of nursing school, you can make it to the end!!! I hope this helps and be encouraged.
  11. You are so RIGHT!!! Don't let ANYONE steal your joy. If you believe that you can do it and this is what you truly want to do, then go for it. It is you who will be studying and taking the test, not your husband or your friend (if that is what you can call her) Let me tell you something I am a 36yr old mom of 5 with a special needs child and I currently have a 3.87 GPA. There are people around me that can't believe it, but with a little determination and faith you CAN do it. Don't waste anymore time trying to tell them what you are going to do...like NIKE says just do it and it will shut them up. Be encouraged
  12. It is ok to be nervous because you want to be the BEST and there is nothing wrong with that. Enjoy your last few weeks of summer break because it will be a while before you can relax like this again. I am currently a nursing student myself with 5 kids, one of which has special needs. It is going to be rigorous because you are taking in quite a bit of information in a small amount of time and you will be expected to apply that knowledge once you are in clinicals. You made it through your pre-reqs and you will make it through nursing school :wink2: Congrats on your acceptance
  13. To get a free credit report for all 3 bureaus without having to provide credit card info is annualcreditreport.com. Good luck to you all!
  14. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!! I know it has been a long time coming. I can imagine how you feel because I am a nursing student myself in a ADN program. I will be able to celebrate in Aug 2010. Enjoy your high having complete one of your goals. Catch up on your zzzzz's I'm sure you need it. CONGRATS again!!
  15. I say GO for it!!! Nursing school will definately be a challenge, but is well worth it!! I am a mother of 5 kids, one of whom who has special needs and I am a full time nursing student. It hasn't. been easy because I sacrifice doing things with my kids and spending time with them. I told them that things would be a little tight until I finished school. Definately, go for ANY loans that you are eligible for. Don't worry about the amount of loans that you are racking up because when you become the RN some employers offer loan forgiveness. I pray that things will work out for you.
