So, I posted several months ago.
I self reported a positive drug screen 5 months ago. I don't do drugs, it wasn't an intentional thing. Let's just leave it at that.
BON is finally looking at my case. I got a phone call from IPN that the investigator on my case from the BON contacted IPN for an "emergency referral". IPN lady said I had 24 hours to agree to get an evaluation and voluntarily withdraw my license. The ironic thing is I already got an evaluation per my lawyer, who is approved, but since it was not "IPN facilitated" I cannot use it with IPN. ?I knew this would probably happen but my lawyer was hoping to present it to the BON and not deal with IPN.
My evaluation I got on my own did NOT suggest monitoring which is amazing! So I plan on sending that to the new, IPN owned, evaluator. I'm sure he is in their pocket and financially driven to say that I'll need monitoring. I'm mentally prepared for that part.
My concern is I've received nothing from the DOH/BON. My lawyer says I have two choices. Play the IPN game, or try to deal with the BON, but risk a suspension on my license while they "investigate", and a public complaint on my license.
I can see why IPN backs you into a corner and makes it seem that the only way is through them, by their arbitrary rules.
I'm waiting to hear back from IPN. I knew I'd get sucked into this, but a positive evaluation made me think for one moment I'd prevail.
You are definitely right. I AM getting closer to retirement, and when I do I will write every senator or elected officials of each board regarding the scam of IPN. They ruin careers and humiliate nurses into submission. I will never forget after I had my eval elsewhere they IPN evaluator across from me saying " well I guess we will see if your telling the truth about this situation which I believe you are not" I was.just like really. So when I get back into this group it will be 2 years until I retire. I will be documenting this whole thread. I have started already( without names of course). I will be in touch with people if that is what they would like and get this IPN change in gear.

Anyway rant over for now... I'm so thankful I came across this discussion.. it just re assures me that how I am feeling.. (as a nurse) is not so far off. The tears and feelings of impending doom is not fun.. I hope everyone hasn't allowed this to take over too much. I just won't and can't become apart of something that goes against who I am.. regardless whether anyone is in or out.. believes in it or not.. I wish you all strength and success.. Cant allow this to dim the light ❤️
The goal of putting a stop to BON corruption is noble and just. It is a scam and racket. Unfortunately, we often and usually view this through a lens of nursing only. Sadly, corruption is infested in the US in nearly every major institution. Do you think a senator is going to go to bat for inmates in prison? There just went his or her re-election. Same with "druggy nurses" as the public perceives those in monitoring. 99 percent of senators and congress people aren't going to bat for that cause. After all, nurse groups such as the ANA and NLN and advanced practice groups like the AANA (Nurse Anesthetists) are powerful lobbying organizations. If that congressman or senator even hints at going after a BON, those lobbying groups not only stop supporting that congress person, but they also fund (send money) to that congress persons other candidate when it's time for reelection.
It's a very tough nut to crack.

But at least we won't say we went down without a fight. Another nurse posted that changes were made in her institution because of an incident that happened with her at work.
Also remember those NY nurses that lost their jobs because they refused to take the covid vaccine, they sued and eventually won their case? They went against big coorporations, and they won! What if we win as well?

Agree we have to fight small wins but wins none the less

We are going to win.

Tough for sure.. but nothing is impossible.!
I would like to get a podcast to cover this situation. I really like "Something was Wrong". I feel like we should submit the idea and see if they would delve into the corruption that obviously is occurring in these programs and the lack of BON oversight. If we went this route then we might lose our ability to remain anonymous; although I have heard participants on her other shows remain anonymous. I am also reading "The Disrupted Physician". I haven't finished it yet, but it is horrific how this physician has had to deal with his monitoring program. It's about a physician, but it is the same things that we are dealing with in our own programs. Anyway, I feel like we are treated worse than common criminals. These programs are not about helping anyone. It is about breaking people down. People may get help doing monitoring, but it's in spite of the monitoring program, not because of it.
