Can anyone give me any information about conditions at this facility. Back when I went to school, they had no caffeinated beverages. Is that still true? Any other interesting facts?
Thanks!

No caff beverages? What, I have lived here all my life and cant imagine that. Anyhow, I am starting my career at FL Hosp Altamonte. I am completely in love with the system and the hospital. Its growing, they just added a new employee parking lot, and are planning on adding to the facility in the future. Check out their website for more info.

I can't specificly answer the original posters question, I can provide some insite. Florida hospital is part of the Seventh Day Adventist system. As such they subscribe their religious tennants. In this case caffiene may be one of substances that they dont consume so they may not provide it in their hospitals.

Oh come on! You guys are joking right? I work at FL Hospital Altamonte, for goodness sake I was born at one of the FL Hospitals and sine the day I was born they have had soda products. This is actually hiliarious!
I repeat that when I did my student rotations (14 years ago), some of their facilities did not sell any caffeinated beverages.
One doesn't easily forget the student nurses, jonesing for a fix when they got off from clinical.

I am in our Fl hospital at least once a month but I can't remember if they have caffeine or not, I'll have to look when I go tomorrow night!
I know that they only have vegetarian food in their cafeteria though, for sure- at least in our branch, unless they've changed it in the last year or so. There were a few other things that I'm trying to remember that a friend who is a former employee told me.... seems like there was something about jewelry, like you couldn't wear anything but a little cross on a necklace or something (I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was it). There were definitely a few other things related to its status as a 7th Day Adventist hospital but I just can't remember.
Here's a quote from the link pasted below:
"Diet: Members are expected to abstain from alcohol, tobacco, and every other "soul-defiling habit".
They were once also expected to abstain from caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, cola drinks etc. The church has removed this from the baptismal vows, although they still recommend that people abstain from caffeine. They have interpreted the Old Testament dietary laws as prohibiting the eating of some foods. The church recommended avoiding red meat for many decades before medical science caught up with them. Many SDA member are vegetarians who supplement their diet with eggs and milk."

That page gives an overview of 7th Day Adventists & their beliefs.
Ok, I checked tonight when I was there, and our FL hospital does indeed feature caffeinated drinks! LOL
My husband also reminded me that (at our branch, mind you, can't speak for others), the patients and the doctors have access to meals with meat. Just the rest of the peon workers and visitors have to go without.

I had clinicals at Fh Altamonte until last week. They do have caffeinated beverages now, (I teacher told us that back in the day they did not have it). And they also serve meat. I ate at their caffeteria once a week and they have blue tags on the foods that are vegetarian and I think Yellow or whatever color coded system for the meals that contain meat (chicken, beef or whatever).

I work at FH Orlando, and they have caffeinated beverages, real meat, and most items found at any other facility. They DO NOT serve pork products. The Wendy's on Orange Ave also doesn't serve bacon on their hamburgers. I didn't realize it at the time but was informed it is because they rent that location from FH and they would not rent to them if they served pork! Piggish huh?.......sorry just punning around.......I will tell you that our facility doesn't give much thought to their variety...same things all the time. Would be interested if someone actually offered healthy choices(sub bar, wraps, more grilled items)
