Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum! I really would like to become a nurse, but I want to make sure that I go to good school, because I don't want to have problems getting hired once I get out of school.

Now I don't know how accurate this is, but I've heard that hospitals don't like to hire nurses from community colleges because they do not get trained good enough, and the hospitals rather hire people from better schools. I heard that if you go to a community college you are stuck working at nursing homes. Is this true?

What good schools do you recommend to me? I live in Tampa, Clearwater, Saint Petersburg area in Florida.

I really need some good information, I am a single mother and I can't afford to make anymore mistakes when it comes to spending money for school. I need to find a school that has a good reputation and a school that will better my chances in finding a job once I'm done.

Thanks for your help.

I'm just a student. And I had the same question as you. However, i was hearing just the opposite. That some of the profit schools students were having a ruff time locally. That the hospitals wasn't happy with the quality graduating from those schools. IN MY AREA. And preferred the CC grads over them.

I talked to nurses working in the field in this area and that was the information I was getting from them. Then I talked to a few out of state friends and a couple of travelers about it. From what I understand, it's not about CC, private, etc. But each school has it's own reputation. Some are considered better then others. I got lucky and my CC has a great rep. If I was you I would ask about the schools your thinking about going to.

I am in central fl, so I don't know anything about the schools in the Tampa area.

I've been talking to an advisor for Utica's St. Petersburg location. If you already have a non-nursing bachelors, then'd you'd qualify for the program. I'm all but certain I'm going there spring 2015. They were really helpful and have been nice to me. Hope this helps. Good luck in your search!

Hi Sunshine, I've been in touch with Utica advisors for the last few weeks and I'm skeptical about their accelerated BSN program, what's your advice? Please advice me , thanks.

DId you end up attending Utica in St. Petes? I'm considering it, but nervous because I have seen bad reviews
