- I am a student nurse and I have always thought it would be exciting to be a flight nurse. What type of qualifications or experience must you have before you can obtain a job within this field?

There are companies who will hire a new grad, an RN with 1-2 years of experience. A better question may be "what experience should I have prior to looking for a job in the field?"
Anecdotally, I find nurses with at least 3-5 years of *quality* experience with the right attitude will do well. *I define this as ER & ICU. As somebody who started flying with only ER experience, I had a big learning curve on the critical care ICU patients.
In addition, you should check out the flight nursing thread. I assume you did not search through this thread as your question is in the general discussion section? You will find good information and possibly find many answers to other questions here.
Thank you GilaRN for the information. I will definetly check out the flight nursing thread.
