I wasn't sure where to post this, it seems like it could go under a few different sub-headings, so forgive me if I am posting too broadly.
I have read over the FL Nurse Practice Act and I cannot find specific information on what RNs can perform independent of working under physicians. I mean, my understanding is that we can do head to toe assessments, and in the absence of a physician, not much else professionally.
I am asking because I am considering volunteering at a shelter. There is no medical staff and there is no protocol in place for nursing as of yet. Does anyone know where I can find in the FL Practice Act where it states what a nurse can do/perform in such a situation?
Thank you so very kindly!

Simply out of curiosity, what would you use such an assessment for without a medical staff or protocols to follow?
(Sorry I don't have any answers.)

Patient education in your area of expertise? Determine nursing diagnosis and create a nursing plan of care complete with nursing interventions and goals.
What exactly are you wanting to do?

Is this a new position? Is there a job description? In addition to assessments, patient teaching, you would probably be involved in coordinating referrals. Also what about medications? Will you be helping guests self-administer meds. Will meds be stored somewhere that you are responsible for? Are you the only RN? Are there policies?? Sounds interesting.
