Hi all..I've been lurking around for weeks now, I finally decided to join
Anyone have any info on FIU? Is it as hard as MDC to get into for nursing? What are the actual hours that you have to be on the campus? Im trying to find a school that will hopefully let me keep my job
For example, I know that in BCC a lot of the program web-based now :)
Any info would be much appreciated!
Just an update for those of you interested in the FIU program...my Intro to Nursing teacher recently informed us that due to budget cuts (as some of you may know some education, engineering, and health programs were cut) the # of students to be accepted into the program went down from 70 to 50...yes i couldn't believe it myself..i mean with the shortage of nurses in this country, to do something like this..
Thanks for the info J.Bumble, what school/schools did you get into?
Should I go ahead and pay the $230 for BCC's req of that health core class? I feel as if I am preparing myself for every single school- and their requirements
I have dropped/added classes on my schedule for fall semester 3x!
LOL, that sounds like me a couple of years back.. I did prepare myself for all the schools.
i would definitely make that investment for BCC, and apply there.
I mean, apply everywhere you can, and someone will definitely have to take you in.
I see on a later post, you stated you went to FIU. How is that going?
I am doing their RN-BSN program online, and it's fabulous!
unfortunately no i will not be able to apply to fiu until fall 2010. i still need micro and AP2--i am currently doing chem.
hopefully when i do apply i can get in. i have a girl in my prof nursing class that is applying for fall 2009.
good luck!
are you completely done with all your pre-reqs? i know you that you can be in prof nursing and communications when applying to the program.
what is your gpa? how was the net?
here is the info i got from the fiu website:
all necessary admission documents must be submitted by february 15 of the year preceding the summer term admission or may 15 of the year preceding the fall term admission.
also, fiu requires finite math not algebra. i was told that college algebra at fiu is a lot harder than at other schools because it focuses more on higher level (trig/calc) maths than "algebra."
yes siby, you are right about what the fiu site says about math. however, when i called the guy that i spoke with said that fiu replaces mgf with mac if needed. and now especially since florida colleges have done away with the CLAST exam, you must take MAC1105 in order to get your AA. so coming in to fiu and fiu nursing with MAC is fine. you cant take MGF (finite math) and use that as a required math at college for an AA....you need MAC and STATS to get an AA...

Hi Siby.Siby,
Yes, i am completely done with the pre-reqs for FIU. My cumm GPA is 3.29,not too hot. And the net wasn't bad..i found the reading to be a little harder for me..just depends on you. Just practire your math (it's elementary school stuff), and the reading (you can find samples online).
Unfortunately, i just received my rejection letter from FIU today ..and i'm indecisive on what to do, where to apply to..etc.

Thanx for your replies, much appreciated
Im going on the 4th to FIU to see an advisor in the Nursing Dept. Im hoping to get out of College Algebra and maybe take Finite Math. It looks like FIU (from their website) only requies a statistics and a Finite Math..IF you have an AA If that's the case, then cya!! to algebra
:D
I have a 3.06 and a 4.0 in sciences. Of course I still need A&P I and II and Micro. lol Hopefully I can keep that 4.0 for my science courses, and retake 2 classes that I failed like 50 yrs ago lol to raise my cumm gpa
