FIU Generic BSN 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure if there is another thread for FIU's 2014 generic BSN program, but I figured I'd make one. I just wanted to see if there was anyone else who applied? I finished applying about a week ago and I was hoping maybe someone in the program could give us some advice or insight on how they like the program.

Thanks! And good luck everyone!!

Hi, I applied to the program too. I applied to USF also, but Fiu is my first choice. I didn't do well on my first teas test, but I retook it and got 85.3, which I've heard is a pretty good grade. I study a lot for that test, and I was surprised that many of the questions were not on the ati study guide. That made the test really hard!!! My gpa is 3.89 with 4.0 on science. The video took me weeks and I'm not even sure if it's ok, I've heard those questions are tricky. Does anybody know if it is possible to work while in the program? People have told it is really hard, and not recommended.

Hey Lj26! Did you apply for the summer term or fall term for USF? 85.3 is awesome, congratulations! I also had a lot of material that I felt wasn't covered in the ATI material. :grumpy:

Did you take your video to one of the nursing advisors? I know for about a week they were reviewing peoples videos and helping edit them.

Three of my friends worked throughout the whole program and had no problem. They do advise you not to, but I think as long as you manage your time well it would be fine. All three of them received really good grades and passed the NCLEX with no problem at the end of the program.

Thanks BrittL, I applied for fall. I didn't know the program started at summer too. I took the video to the advisor, and he told me I had the last two questions wrong; he said those were the most difficult and kind of explained how to answer them. But by the time I finished the video, it was to late to set an appointment again with the advisor. I also ran out of time on the last question and had to speak super fast make it shorter than 3 min.

Hey BrittL, I also applied for FIU fall 2014 nursing program. I am really really nervous if I will be accepted or not. I did not do all well as i hoped for the Teas. I didn't make it to the overall 70% on one exam but if you take my best scores from both exams I have exactly 70%. My GPA is a 3.69 and my science GPA is 3.82. I have a lot of volunteer hours but I am nervous because of the stupid teas score. I'm anxiously waiting for may. I applied and was accepted to nova's nursing program but I really want FIU. I am a transfer student so I have that disadvantage as well. There is a rumor going around MDC that if you are a transfer to FIU nursing you need to wait a year for acceptance.... is this true????

The last two questions were tough for me too. I cut out a lot of things I wanted to say so I had an extra 10 seconds left at the end of my video. I hope our videos turned out alright!!

Hello! I am extremely nervous as well, especially since FIU is the only school I've applied too! :nailbiting: As far as the TEAS, I don't think they combine scores from different tests (someone correct me if I am wrong), I think they take which ever exam you scored higher. If you go to the TEAS FAQ it should be the last question on the page. How many volunteer hours did you have? I had a little bit over 500. And congratulations on getting accepted to Nova!! It might not be your first choice, but it must feel good to know you could fall back on that! I am a transfer student as well from MDC, I have never heard that rumor and I highly doubt that is true. I've talked to several advisors and none of them have mentioned that to me :)

Thank you BrittL! I dont have as many hours as you haha I have 245 hours. Did you pay the fee to hold your spot at FIU? Is it necessary? I was already accepted to FIU but I haven't paid the $200 yet. :specs:

Lol 245 is still awesome! Where did you volunteer? I haven't paid the $200 to hold my spot either. I actually called and asked that questions a couple months back and I was told we didn't have to pay the deposit until we were accepted into the nursing program. I'm not sure if that is 100% true or not but that's what I'm going with because I don't want to pay the $200 if I don't get accepted

I volunteered at Cleveland Clinic in broward county. Where did you volunteer?

I heard about a scholarship program for memorial hospital much like the baptist scholarship and it can be used for FIU. Does anyone know if this is true??

Hey guys,

you all have really great stats! Good luck to everyone!!! And I am also an MDC student. I don't think it's a disadvantage. I believe they have a certain percentage of transfers they must accept. (I may be wrong) and if that is true about the memorial scholarship I need to get in contact with them ASAP! That's amazing.

I volunteered as a cheerleading coach for disabled children and I also volunteered at a optometrists office. I was told the memorial scholarships are for BCC students only :( But I know FIU has tons of scholarships they give out! I received a transfer scholarship and I was told from a friend that once you're in the nursing program you have a chance to apply for several different scholarships. I'm not sure if this is true but I hope so!

Anyone know when we are supposed to hear back?

U guys did awesome...we have over a month and change to wait for a response in freaking out...I'm applying to famu and also broward but I really want a bachelors...anyone heard anything?
