FIU CRNA interview help

Published

I got invited to interview at FIU and want to be prepared as possible. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for preparing for the interview? What kind of questions were asked? Any opinions about the school and program? Really any information about CRNA at FIU! Any information would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I will definitely post as soon as I hear! I was keeping my fingers crossed for a Thanksgiving present from FIU... but nothing :-) Maybe we will hear something within the next week.... patience hurts sometimes..

I'm thinking of applying to UM CRNA program for fall 2012, what are my chances:

Experience: 4 years at Jackson ER

GPA: 3.2

GRE: ? plan to take it on February or March

references: great

ICU: 0 :(

Hi there hope85

I hate to be the rain on your parade but you really need at least 1 to 2 years, if not more, years of critical care experience. Your gpa is a little on the low side but will not be a huge factor if you do really well on the gre. Just make sure you do amazing on the gre because most people either have the great gpa or the great gre score, it's the key to help you get an interview. Good luck and continue working hard. Also, after you get into critical care try to get your ccrn certification, it's consudered to be prestigious and is highly regarded, makes you thatuch more of an appealing candidate. Of you feel icu ccrn and 2 years is too long to wait consider the Arnp route instead of crna. :)

Hope ..we have a student ith 2 years er and 1 year icu. Just get into icu for a year and you will be a shoe in.

I agree with Nishas22. Programs will accept you with minimal ICU experience, but it's rare... To supplement your GPA, definitely do well on the GRE. According to the director at FIU, studies have shown a strong correlation between high GRE scores and passing rates on the CRNA boards.... so it is highly factored. Experience is probably 40% of your package though. I would try to get into a CVICU or SICU setting if possible. I come from a MSICU background and I found that I had to prepare myself more for questioning due to minimal experiences with more direct cardio functions. If it is worth it to you, just be persistant and know that if you don't get in for 2012... you have another year to gain additional experiences.

On a side note.... I received an invitation for Gooding Insitute in Panama today! I spoke with the director for almost an hour on the phone. They seem to have a great program and really down-to-earth, for those who are interested. So far I've interviewed with FIU and USF... and have the Gooding and UNF interviews coming up in January. It would be awesome to have options, but I'd be thrilled to just get into one!

Hey daylight!

Awesome!!! Congratulations, you are one step closer to pursuing your dream :) I wish I had the option of moving but I just became a homeowner and I live living with my family, I could never move away like I did for undergrad. Applied also to univ of miami, but still have not heard anything yet. Good luck, let me know how it goes....

Nishas..... I am so happy for you! That is awesome. I haven't received anything yet, but I didn't feel too confident with my interview at FIU. I felt much better about my other two interviews. It seems like a great program and I would be happy accepting that, or any of the other programs as well :-) Let me know how everything goes, and I'll keep you posted if I receive anything.
