You guys are probably right. I feel like I know ICU nursing and it is so different than what I will be learning in Anesthesia. I assume (through the courses) that there is a lot of chemistry and biochemisty as well? That part really scares me! lol I can handle the meds, techniques, all the studying, etc...But chemistry, I need to work really hard at it. I will definitely get the Baby Miller prior to getting the M&M&M, thank you for your suggestions!

Hi guys,Just a few quick questions...I recently got accepted to FIU CRNA program and still have several months before school starts in August. Everyone that I have heard from so far says to kick back, relax, and enjoy my free time. Others have told me to review most commonly used anesthetics. But I am so ready to start and want to know if there is anything I can do in the meantime that will make my life easier later on. I am wondering if CRNA school teaches you everything you need to know or if you should do some studying beforehand?I have 2 years of critical care nursing experience and am a quick learner, definitely not a know it all or trying to sound cocky.Should I be reviewing EKGs, Acid Bases imbalances, ventilators, etc?I was also thinking of buying the book "Watchful care" or the baby miller booksPlease leave some suggestions on what you struggled with most that you wishes you had prepped for prior to starting anesthesia school. Thank you! Any and all of your input is highly appreciated.

Goody, the interview was not bad at all. They asked me a few clinical questions that were very specific such as what receptor sites certain drugs work on, their mechanism of action, duration, preparation of the drip, etc. However, I heard others got more questions than I did. I'm not sure why. I wonder if it is because I recently got my CCRN and sent it to them just prior my interview. You need at least a 3.0 (but more like 3.5-3.8) to be competitive, and they say at least 1000 on the GRE (but more like 1100 or more to be competitive). Also, 1 year of experience, I had about 2 but 2.5 yrs by the time I start. Sunshine RN, the acceptance email was sent by the Anesthesia program. Yes, my freind received her letter just 4 days after mine. No one else that I know of. Then again, I only know only 1 other person than applied and they are still waiting to hear.

Hello!!!!!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG I just had to let this out somewhere since I can't really share with anyone at work or my nursing school freinds. I just got accepted into FIU CRNA Program for class on 2014!!!!!!!!!!!! It was typical, I got home from work, slept and woke up to use the restroom, checked my email on my phone and after reading 2 emails, I'm like...wait a second, I thought I saw something-anesthesia in my inbox. Half asleep, I rechecked. And then I was wide awake! lol It said, "Dear student, please see the letter attached" It said, "To the future "My name, MSN, CRNA" - Congratulations!! Blah blah blah =) I almost started crying on the phone, reading it to my brother. Wow, it hit me, I was holding the paper that is telling me I get to pursue my dreams!!!!!!!! There is no better feeling in the world at this moment. Despite that I got pulled over by a cop this morning on the way home from work, and I have to go back to work tonight, and I look like a mess, this feeling inside me is just....AMAZING! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you also are going to FIU for class of 2014, continue this thread!

Congratulations, you are one step closer to pursuing your dream :) I wish I had the option of moving but I just became a homeowner and I live living with my family, I could never move away like I did for undergrad. Applied also to univ of miami, but still have not heard anything yet. Good luck, let me know how it goes....

Hi there hope85 I hate to be the rain on your parade but you really need at least 1 to 2 years, if not more, years of critical care experience. Your gpa is a little on the low side but will not be a huge factor if you do really well on the gre. Just make sure you do amazing on the gre because most people either have the great gpa or the great gre score, it's the key to help you get an interview. Good luck and continue working hard. Also, after you get into critical care try to get your ccrn certification, it's consudered to be prestigious and is highly regarded, makes you thatuch more of an appealing candidate. Of you feel icu ccrn and 2 years is too long to wait consider the Arnp route instead of crna. :)

Hey asdaylightburnsjax Oh man...Me too, I kind of drew a blank at the Levo/Neo question too. For some reason, they did not give me any interview questions of ABGs or EKGs or anything about Lasix/Mannitol either. I wonder what that means. I recently got my CCRN and sent it to them days before my interview so I wonder if they felt confident enough in my abilities that they didn't feel the need to ask me?? Or maybe I sounded completely off? Who knows? What do you think?? I have one for Barry soon, so I think I will definitely review prior to. I feel pretty decent about the FIU interview but a previous grad tells me that doesn't mean anything. Please let me know if you hear from FIU, I'll post something on this site if I do as well. Thanks for your input.
