FIU BSN Accelerated Option Program

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any information regarding the accelerated BSN at FIU? It would be a bit of a drive from me, but doable. FAU's accelerated program is my first choice, but I am curious as to what you guys can share.

What ever happened with the accelerated program acceptance? Did you hear? I would love to hear about what's going on. I was curious since it was new

The cohort was notified of acceptance in November and classes began December 15th. 25 students were accepted.

For those in this program, can you share your experience so far? What is the maximum they allow into this program? ;)

Hello roxystarfire,

I am one of the students that got accepted into the program and we are currently in our second semester. Let me tell you something you will have no life!!!!!!!!!!! it is so intense. Right now we are taking pharmacology, pathophysiology, med-surge 1, med-surge 1 clinical, health assessment, and nursing leadership. I believe is a total of 20 credits or something crazy, but that's the nature of the program, any accelerated BSN program will be like that. you will have a test or several quizzes at least every week no doubt, and the homework assignments are constant never ending and time consuming. You don't really have time to read all chapters and learn the material, because each test is like over 10-15 chapters, but i guess it repeats between classes the material so you constantly going over it. I don't want to scare you, I just want to let you know how intense it is, for example we have a test tomorrow monday over 13 chapters of pathophysiology. then tueday we hav a test for med-surge 1, wednesday we have our midterm for health assessment over 18 chapters, and then thursday wake up at 4:45 in the morning to go to baptist clinical. so as you can tell you really have no time for anything, HOWEVER, if you are organized, do study groups and keep up you will pass no problem. but you have to go in with the mindset that you will have no life for a year. I see my girlfriend once a week sometimes lol sorry that was off topic, i may be ranting. But anyone that goes in there knowing what to expect and apply themselves can do it. This first AO class is probably harder for us because we are the guinea pigs, and there is a lot of disorganization and trial structuring, but after this first class i am sure that administration will learn and make the program better, one thing for sure is that you'll feel like your not learning anything and its just a catch up game, you trying to complete all assignments and trying to study for exams, but that's just how an accelerated program is going to feel, you will learn what you need to when you start working as a nurse. I guess after this spring semester we will saw how many of us are left over, this is the semester that makes you or breaks you, we've only had one person drop out so far, so lets see how many are left after this semester os over, hopefully everyone makes it, cause i love my classmates. hope i was of help. let me know if you have any other questions. now i have to go back to studying. lol good luck

You have given me so much info that I am so grateful of this. Not many people take time to share their experiences so thank you so very very much! I'm okay with suffering a year of hard work and I also don't have a life now lol so I guess I'm a good candidate lol. No kids and I'm 31 ...no social or party life. Im like an old lady over here. I'm ready!! :) I guess I'd like to know if the professors are good as far as teaching and quality. Do they rush and throw you under the bus or do they give you the opportunity to get an A if you bust your butt. Just curious. I maybe attending broward college but I also want a Bachelor's in management and nursing. That's the only reason I was considering FIU. Thank you again!! :D

Hey everyone!

I have applied to the FIU accelerated BSN program for the Spring 2016 term and I was wondering what advice you may have for the interview? What type of questions did they ask? Any helpful tips would be appreciated!

Thanks! :)

Hello,

Has anyone heard back about interviews? I had an email that asked to please disregard a denial letter (I never received one) and now nothing. It seems like they are taking a very long time to send information about interviews. Thanks for any info.
