First years as NP...

Published

I am finishing up my BSN (already have my ADN) and plan on jumping right into the ACNP program my school offers. Out of curiosity, is there any info a relatively new NP could give to an aspiring NP? Any of the "I wish I had known this at the time" advice? Any "this was the best/worst decision ever"?

I have heard less than stellar things about URI's program from several people, I'd rather drive to Boston or UConn.

Oh really? I haven't heard anything about its reputation. That's interesting to know though.

I know a couple people who switched programs or opted out of the URI program for various reasons. All stated some poor points about the "higher ups" in the program and ego issues. I personally do not have experience with this and an merely putting out gossip. I chose to avoid the program altogether since it did not appeal to me. If it suits you then I'm sure it won't be an issue as to who or how it is run. I don't want to come off as bad-mouthing the program as I do know people who have gone through it and none of them say "oh, I was so ill prepared". They all felt they had an adequate education.

I would say that attitude is true of staff nurses in general.

That was funny. I don't care who you are.
