Want to be an RN

There is a school here in Saint Louis, MO. its Deaconess College of Nursing and they have a web-based LPN-ASN program. Before you make the decision to attend any online ASN program, let me tell you that the courses do not transfer to other nursing programs if you decide this is not the way to go, like I did. Attending nursing school is hard but not that hard when you are determined to get your RN license. I personally don't like the web based ASN program. The quality of a good education is not there. I suggest that you talk with your husband and work out some kind of financial plan while you attend school. And check with the financial aid office where you want to attend school and see if there is some free money out there that you could use while you attend school. With the nursing shortage schools and jobs will work with you to help you make ends meet. It takes a lot of sacrafice to become a nurse if you have a family. I know because I'm a single mom with two kids who works and still goes to nursing school. Sounds hard but its not when you start to do it.

i am currently a nursing student and i am using a grant to pay for my college..but i live in texas and i don't know if your state offers the same grant..try going to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov or calling 1-800-433-3243..so far they have paid for my education completely..and there is alot of mothers and single mothers getting the ADN degree at the college i am attending..:roll

While I am not getting my ADN online, I am doing through Excelsior College, a distance learning college. I beg to differ with the person before who said the quality of education just isn't there with an "online" ADN program. My program is very difficult, although self-paced. Such a blanket statement should be taken for what it is, just one person's opinion.

11 years ago, I was in an excellent 4-year, BSN program. I have something to judge my current education against. Excelsior's program is no walk in park. I have three children and am not currently working, so I can focus a great deal on school. I am so grateful for this nontraditional way of completing my ADN.

For some reason everyone thinks they need to quit work to go to school full time?? Not everyone has to do that. It sounds like you need to work and wow I understand that as so did I for my ADN, my BS and my MS. I worked full time and the later degree with 5 kids so look at everything. Just my thoughts. I wish you the best, work hard and study and you should be fine.

I haven't worked since having my kids..........but I'm certainly not saying that in order to do well in school, you musn't work. Far from it. Do what you have to do to get through school, and support your family, if necessary. Getting your RN is a wonderful goal, regarless of how you get there. :)
