Specializes in Med-Surg.

If you want to learn, a hospital is a better place to work. In my experience, nursing home work is more routine and predictable, while hospital nursing is usually more unpredictable and fast-paced. It depends what is more important to you.

Specializes in Trauma ICU, MICU/SICU.

Are yo an RN or an LPN?

If you are an RN, I would definitely start in the hospital. RN's are managers in nursing home, and that seems a bit overwhelming for a new grad in my opinion.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Like the other posters have said - it depends on what type of experience you want...a nursing home is more chronic care versus a hospital is acute care.

Specializes in Clinical exp in OB, psy, med-surg, peds.

I am a new grad and works in a nursing home, it is very stressful, and and demanding, hospital is best

In my opinion, a new grad is better working at a hospital first. They can learn so many skills, and it may help later on if one decides to do chronic care like at a nursing home. Plus I'm sure what you learn in the nursing home is a lot of skills, but not as much as in a hospital IMO.
