Fear of Blood?

Nurses New Nurse

I am starting nursing school because I want to become a RN very bad. I only have a fear of blood, everytime I see it I pass out or I feel dizzy. Is there anyway I could get over my fear? All suggestions would be helpful!

:D

well, you can try and desensitize yourself to it by exposing yourself to a little bit of blood at a time. You can start off by looking at pictures of blood and moving up to actually looking at real blood. It's going to be difficult getting through nursing school clinicals with a fear of blood, so good luck with getting over your fear.

I am starting NS in Jan., and I, too, have a fear of blood. But, what I think I'm really afraid of is hurting someone, since my biggest fear is actually sticking someone for a blood draw. (I know from experience how horrible it can be if the nurse isn't "gifted" in that area!) Do you think it's the same for you? I think once we get started and get beyond the "fear of the unknown" we'll feel much better about it.

Yeah, thanks.

Also, I see your from Ohio, me too!

Where are you training to become a nurse?

I'm starting at Hondros on Jan. 12th, at the West Chester campus. How about you?

Scarlet Oaks vocational school.

I hope I get in!

Good luck on your schooling!

I don't think you'll have too much trouble getting in there. Good luck to you, too!

Specializes in Medical.

Desensitisation programs for both blood and needle phobias are really successful and usually only require one or two sessions
