I am finishing up with school this Dec. and NEVER even took algebra in high school. I also graduated from high school in 1977. A long time ago! We needed a 100% on the last semester's med calculation test and I got it on the first try. Take a good remedial algebra course (or two like I did) and do not worry about it. The instructors will show you the formulas to use and short-cuts. Get with a tutor if needed. Good luck!

I was kind of like you in HS math-just skirting by and when I was thinking about going to NS and found out there was math I was devestated!!:( But then I took a nursing math class and they give you the formulas so that made it a little easier but I still freak out when I have to figure dosages. But the more that I use it the more comfortable I feel.

It will be ok and don't let math be the thing that holds you back from Nursing as a career.

I did terrible in H.S. math!!!! In my last year of high school, I realized I needed to get to know these subjects (chemistry and math) really well. So I stood after school with one student who knew the material well. The professor was so impressed that one student was helping another that he gave extra credit.

In college, I had to take chemistry, math and then a new class, statistics. So I had the idea of what I was up against, just on a college level. There was tutoring available at my college, I brought snacks and spent hours with my tutor. He was excellent. He would put examples on the board for me to practice, offered pleanty of tips until I finally got it! My scores on exams were great, so I would do everything I could to keep from those C's and D's.

If there is tutoring available, go for it!!!!!!!
