Are you ever too "old" to go to nursing school. I am 39 nine, is it worth it. Sometimes I just want to quit, but quit and do what this is the reason that I decided to go back to school.

Quick question, my sister is a RN currently NICU nurse, I am trying to get into nursing with no help what so ever from her. Sometimes I think she does not want me to succeed. There is room for both of us . I ask her questions pertaing to my class and she tells me she dosent remember, it been too long ago. She offer no type of input. If the shoe was on the other food I would gladly help her.

There were several men and women in my nursing class in their 50s. They had a wealth of life experience to lean on and probably got a lot more out of it than I did. Good grief--when I graduated I wasn't even old enough to purchase alcohol but the state board of nursing granted me an RN license that allowed me to push IV drugs!?!

Thirty-nine was probably the average age in my nursing class. You would have fit in really well! :)

Specializes in CDI Supervisor; Formerly NICU.

I'll be 40 in July, and I start my 3rd semester in my ADN program in August, to graduate in May/June 09. If I can do it, anyone can. :clown:

I got into my nursing program at age 35 and just graduated at age 38. I worried I was too old but I told myself that no matter what I did, the time was still going to pass, so why not do something wonderful with it?? I could be a nurse in 2 years or I could still be a secretary - either way, 2 years were going to go by!! And here I am, graduated and ready to go. I wouldn't change a thing!
