First week of school

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

I've made it through the first week. I posted previosly about day 1 and 2. So far we have checked off on handwashing, isolation techniques (mask, gloves, gown, face equipment). Today we checked off on vital signs. I was so nervous, but passed the first try, some other classmated will have to redo parts that were not passed. LPN school is A LOT of reading and studying, I am finding the majority of my time is spent reading the mandatory chapters that will be discussed in lecture, but finding time to review the material and study it is the biggest problem I have so far. Our first test in a&p and nursing foundations is next thursday and friday, respectively. I need to study!

I havent started my LVN program yet. But also, my biggest problem is studying. Im very nervous, i hope i can make it!

branda - if your biggest problem is studying, that will greatly influence how you do in ns; especially if you are going to be in an accelerated program.

i'm putting in no less than 4, but usually do 6 hours/day to keep up my grades. we absolutely can not get behind for even one day.

the accelerated program that i'm in moves fast. several folks are having a tough time because they're not putting in the time.

if you are going to be doing regular semesters then maybe it will be less bumpy.

Specializes in LTC, Clinic, Med/Surg, Ortho.

Me too, I study from the time I get home at about 1pm to 5pm to make dinner and then after dinner it's back to studying till about 9pm. The best part is I have gotten the best sleep ever since starting nursing school.. lol

I'm not good at studying at all, actually I hate it. It was a real struggle for me at first, but I've finally got the hang of how to study effectively and what I should focuse on when it comes to testing. When I got to fundamentals the NCLEX style questions really messed me up a bit, but I'm starting to get a hang of it. Still waiting for my 90's on one of those tests though...LOL!! I go to school at night, so I usually study when I get home from droping my kids off at school, up until it's time to pick them up. If there's something I'm having a hard time grasping I'll put in some extra time after school. I keep it a little light on the weekend though so I have some time for my family. I am glad that I don't have to worry about working, even though my crazy behind is thinking about getting a CNA certification and getting a job working 11pm-7am shifts.

I start on Jan 19 (Tues) in my nursing program.. At orientation they already gave us alot of material to study and have down before class even starts.

The instructors told us in orientation that there will be alot of people to drop due to the high demand of studying needed to pass and that only the strongest will survive..

Now I'm nervous :uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3:

Hang in there! I just started my second semester. I'm loving it :)

I'm so nervous that I will be one of those that drop/fail out. I've never wanted something so badly, yet I'm so afraid of failing. It's the one thing that has kept me from going for it these last few years... I start school in early March and will go Monday through Thursday from 4pm-9pm for theory/4pm-10pm for clinicals.

I came up with this plan to study:

Study all day from 9:00am-12:00pm, feed my kids and get them ready and cook dinner early, and study from 1pm-2pm and then get myself ready and do any last minute studying until 3:30pm when I have to leave for class. I'll get home about 9:25pm/10:25pm and put my kids in bed and then do some cleaning and take a shower and be in bed by 12pm the latest. If I can sneak in some study time, great! Fridays when I don't have class, I plan to get up early and do laundry/cleaning and spend some time with my kids. After that, study from like 12:30pm-4:30pm when I have to cook dinner. After I put my kids to bed I'll probably study until 10pm-11pm and then get ready for bed. Saturdays will be dedicated to my family and doing things for myself (eyebrows, hair, toe nails lol). It's my husband's day off so we can cuddle and catch up. Then when Sunday rolls around, I'll get whatever I need ready for the week done, and study for at least 4 hours at some point in time to get my brain ready for the classes to come.

Does that sound like a good plan?? Ugh I'm so nervous I don't know what to do with myself! I am so thankful I do not have to work... I just hope I can handle it. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
