First time- scared

Published

Traveling is something i have always wanted to do. Last summer, I was all ready to do it and somebody told me a horror story about an agency and I backed out. Now, my husband and I are really in the best place in our lives to pick up and travel (in between leases) and I am doing research again.... it seems like there are no good agencies out there! I have read so many awful things that it makes me want to never travel!! I know that there has to be some good agencies, otherwise there wouldn't be any travel nurses, right?

I have read other threads and so far Health-Force is the only one I have read positive feed back about. Anyone have any experiences with them? Any experiences with other agencies that are good?

I'm just really discouraged right now. :uhoh21:

I'm with American Mobile and so far I've been quite pleased with them.

Really? I have heard nothing but bad things about that company. I'm glad to hear that it is going well for you.

I have been traveling with RN Network for over a year, and they have been excellent. PM me if you'd like my recruiter's contact info.....

- Yeah I've heard that too, but I have no complaints so far; perhaps they've gotten better.

I'm glad to hear that you're having a great experience. How did you find the transition to moving to a different area and how are people treating you in the hospital? This is my first time traveling and I'm interested in hearing other peoples good experiences.

It was an easy transition for me...although my hometown is only about 3 hours from here, I didn't want to go anywhere really far away at first (this is my first time traveling as well). The apartment I'm in is really nice and not too far from the hospital (Harris Methodist in Fort Worth, TX).

Everyone's been great at the hospital as well...I was lucky enough to find a place that is very friendly to travelers, and I got a good orientation. I think you can get a pretty good idea of how a unit will be from the phone interview...ask them about the nurse-patient ratios, if staff are friendly to travelers, what kind of orientation you'll have, what type of patients you'll have, etc. Hope that helps!

I've actually had good luck with Cross Country, but I may be out ofthe norm, and I have a very senior recruiter, which helps a great deal.

You have to be really careful about what you hear. Sometimes it arises from some sort of expectation that the traveler had that just wasn't the case.

Be sure though, toget everything as firmly written into your contract aspossible, it helps to avoid surprises.

And remember that just because a recruiter promises something, if it is not written in the contract, it does not exist.

Make sure that every little thing is in writing.

I am with Cross Country and am pleased with them. I have a friend that was with American Mobile. She said it wasn't horrible but wouldn't recommend them. And I have another friend that is with Med Express, sister company of American Mobile, and is very happy with her recruiter. Your success with a travle company rests upon your recruiter. He or she can make or break your travel experience. Feel free to pm me for my recruiter name and phone # if you'd like!!

I am a first time traveler looking for a agency to go with. As anyone ever heard of on-assignment travel agency?:twocents:

I have been with Medical Solutions for two years and am very pleased. The most important thing to remember is to have everything put in writing!!
