Hi, I am in my first semester of LPN school...and so far, I am really not happy. I was so excited and just knew this is what I wanted to do. I was an education major before that...and I am starting to regret not sticking with that. I have tried making a list of the pro's and con's but I am so confused. My biggest concern is that if I go abck to education, I will not be able to find a job. I want to work with kids..in fact, if I do not get to work within Peds or L & D, I dont think I will be happy, which will lead to not working for me. I dont want to waste all this money to regret it later. I also want to have a big family and do not want to have to work nights! I had my first day of clinicals last week on the med surg floor and everyone else is so excited and I wanted to go into the bathroom and cry! What is wrong with me!? I dont know what to do!!! I am soo upset right now! My husband is wantign to go to go back to school but we cant afford it right now with me in school and I Feel bad for making him wait on me to just make up my mind. Can anyone give me some advice?

no job is for everybody
child education is a better fit but only yoo can make that determination
people spend a lot of their lifetime making a living and it is sad when the work doesn't bring pleasure
there are other o[ptions besides being a teacher and being a nurse, explore everything

If you are worried about being able to find a job in education, study an area in education that there is a shortage in. I have never heard of a school not begging for special education, speech therapists, or science teachers. I hope you find your way. It took me a while to find my way as well. Have you considered letting hubby go to school for a while while you figure yourself out? Sometimes it just takes time. Working might help you discover yourself.

Have you considered working as a school nurse when you graduate? You'll still get to work with kids and the schedule would reflect your future children's schedule so you could spend time with them.
I know in my area that as a LPN it's hard to get a job in L&D or peds. The only positions that I know that are in this area are the pospartum floor and they rarely have LPN positions.

Wow if you just started can you consider this..... that you really haven't had time to see what it's like to be a student nurse yet? You're only in your first semester and it was just your first week of clinicals. Give it a chance I say.
I know I wasn't very happy during my first semester and was still pretty nervous during my second semester, but when third semester rolled around I was feeling confident and strong in my abilities as a student nurse.
LVN's are hired in pediatric clinics. Have you thought of this option? I did a clinical rotation in a peds clinic and it was fun and fast paced. loved it!
School nurse is a good option too. In my local school district they hire LVN's as school nurses.
Chin up and hang in there. :redpinkhe There are plenty of jobs in nursing where you don't have to work nites. :heartbeat
