First no openings, now two offers...

Published

I have been having a very difficult time. A year without work and applying to over 100 locations. I thought this would be a posibility, but what are the odds right???

Well I was wrong...I interviewed for two positions and was hired on the spot for one and the other requested a second interview. What is the best way to decline and how much information is too much? (Example:I was hired at another facility)

well do you know that you really want the other job? I would go to the second interview if not and see what they have to offer. the more options the better! I'm kind of in the same situation. I have had 2 offers and have another interview next week. I just passed boards today so I am supposed to call the 2 places tomorrow. I planned on telling them I would like to set up a meeting over the phone or in person to discuss pay and benefits because I have other job offers and want to make the best decision.

I like both positions, they both have great opportunities. One is a full time position and the other is a Per Diem position. In a way I am leaning towards the PRN position due to travel time. One con for it would be the possibility of no hours at any given time. Trying to sort it all out and make a good decision.

Keep in mind that you DON'T have two offers: you only have ONE offer and a second interview. This second interview may or may not pan out into a job, AEB a number of threads throughout the forum.

That being said...are you really sure you want to decline a sure job offer, especially in this job market? Is it something about job/facility one (the offer) that you don't like or something about job/facility two (the second interview) that really appeals to you?

I'm not suggesting that you take the job offer if you are going to be really miserable there. But proceed with caution and think it through thoroughly before you decide to decline, because you do not have a backup job offer waiting in the wings should you tell the job offer no. You may...or you may not--it's a gamble you'd have to be willing to take.

Another option: depending on when your second interview is, maybe ask the job offer for a few days to decide? That will let you go on the second interview and see what happens before you make a decision.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

I may be getting ahead of myself, maybe not. I just want to be ready either way. There is always the possibility of getting hired on the spot again, cannot rule it out yet.

Sounds like you have more interest in job #2. Unfortunately, the timing of the job offer and interview may not be your friend.

Looks like you have to make a decision from three choices:

1. Accept the guaranteed job and make the best of it. Should you end up landing job #2, you could accept it and withdraw from job #1, though it may burn a bridge with employer #1. If you're cool with that, there's one option.

2. Decline the guaranteed job and take your chances on the second interview which can really go either way. Hopefully you'll get another on-the-spot offer...because you're right, you can't rule it out yet. But you also can't guarantee it'll happen either. This choice depends on how lucky you feel and how confident you are about your chances with interview #2.

3. See if you can somehow put off accepting the guaranteed job until after your second interview. If it were me, I'd try this first.

Good luck.

Yes go to it and see what they offer...when u get into nursing its all about experience experience and try every route that comes ur way...maybe see if one will let u do PRN so u can do both

Yes, burning a bridge just would'nt help. I always think "what if" I EVER need to apply again there anytime in the future (hope not).

Thank you for the answers so far everyone!! I like to hear opinions from others in the field...Sincerely appreciate it!

Take both jobs. In this field u need to keep a foot n the door somewhere. They let u go for the stupidest things.

Take the full time! As an unemployed new nurse, i wanted any job and was (still am) extremely grateful for my 1st nursing job as a per diem lpn. But once your working, it can be hard. Id give anything to be full time at my job. You dont think of the little things with per diem. Like i get anxiety about getting sleep whenever i can because they call me at all hours: 3, 4, 5 AM, 9, 10 pm, and all day. Plus i worry about making plans bc as a new nurse, i say yes everytime they call. So for the holidays or even going out, i have to worry about them calling. Also, with fulltime hours, youll have what i didnt- consistency. I would be much farther along if i was on the same floor 4-5 days a week. But either way, congratulations! Its always great to have options!

I went in for my interview yesterday and was offered the position! I decided to not to accept and responded with my answer today. I sat down for hours and listed the positives and negatives of each opening. Thank you everyone for listening and giving me feedback! Hope everyone that has been out work gets good news soon too...:nurse:
