I was the nurse on duty and got it!! WOO HOO! Just had to share my excitement about it!!

It was such an awesome experience. I could not believe the difference in how much calmer the babies come out. THis little one barely even cried and I kept checking for heartones and respers way too often, because her behavior made me nervous!!

Did note that the apgars tend to be lower..usually off for color, and they come out so much cleaner!!!!

It was so neat to see the babe float out underwater with her eyes open and as calm as can be!

This was the moms 4th baby and after it was all over, I asked her which she preferred.....her land births or a watebirth, and she said she would waterbirth any day over land!!!

SHe transitioned so quickly that we barely had time to pull on the vet gloves!!!

So far we only have one doc that is doing them and another that is SLOWLY coming on board, but when word gets out, I think the docs will have to be more open to meeting their patients needs. THis is going to be BIG here!!!

WE have another due this week for waterbirth, and I hope I get that one too!!! It was such a rush that I was on a HIGH the remainder of the shift!!!!

Anyhoo, just had to share the news!!!

That is wonderful...Curious as to the baby temp....We have had a few waterbirths but so far, most of them have been unexpected while the patient, who had intended to labor in bed, was in the tub..They seem to do so much better though...

Just curious, did you all get her out before the placenta????

Can someone answer a question for me regarding waterbirths, or point me to references? I have wondered if there is any increased risk of infection to the mother related to contamination of the water during the birthing process and all that open exposed tissue? I've worked with women laboring in a jacuzzi, but not birthing in water, and unfortunately, the only film I've seen of it was a really flaky one brought in by a midwife that involved at least 3 people in a kiddie pool with mom (dad, midwife, and one guy that seemed to just be hanging out - never identified) .

I'm sure there must be a study on this somewhere, but haven't found it.

I don't understand why it's good that the baby hardly cried, and then her apgars were off for color. I like a baby to take some deep breaths at first....crying is good!
