First LPN job

Hi all nurses!

So, I'm very excited! I just passed my boards (YAY me!!) So now I'm looking into potential places to work. I've been suggested to try Home Health but being that I'll be a new nurse, I'm not sure how that'll work out, I feel like I'll be on my own and...well...what if I don't know what I'm doing??

I've also been told about school nurse which I feel the same as home health, I'll be on my own, which is a scary thought.

(BTW, I've never even thought about HH or school nursing as potential jobs, so this is new to me) The reason why I've been suggested those places is because I would rather not work in LTC, I just don't feel like it's my type of environment.

So can anyone give me some input? Any home health or school nurses out there that can describe what they do? Also any other nurses out there than can share what their first LPN job was?

Home health, I would really recommend that you have some

experience first before trying it. Like you said, you are on

your own for the most part. It really helps to have experience

under your belt to build up your skills and confidence. It's

a tough field of nursing.

Private duty is a little different, and I've heard of nurses

doing this as their first job, often. You are with one patient

for 8-12 hours and some cases are more difficult/complex

than others; some are easier.

School nursing, I know little to nothing about.

There's also working in a doctor's office or clinic; many

hire LPN's I do believe.

SOME hospitals still use LPN's. Mine does. I work

in a small rural hospital though.
