First job where? and Length of orientation?

I just applied last week to several hospitals in the area. I would like to have some idea what people are recieving for orientation times in the different areas of nursing. I have applied for several different areas since I have no one area that I love over the other.

1. Medical Oncology

2. 6-8 weeks more can be added if needed. Chemo certifed within a year of employment.

3. 4 pts on days, up to 6 on nights.

Specializes in ICU, Emergency Department.

1. Med-Surg

2. 6-10 weeks depending on individual competency.

3. 1:8 or so is the general nurse/pt ratio; under my union we can go up to 1:10.

Specializes in GICU-WE GET IT ALL.

1. MICU/SICU

2. 7 weeks on unit with my preceptor with 1-2 classroom days a week during that time

3. normal icu 1:1-2, sometimes 3 if staffing is tight

Specializes in General adult inpatient psychiatry.

Unit: general adult inpatient psychiatry

Length of orientation: 12 weeks

Nurse/patient ratio: 1:6 on evenings, 1:8 on nights

I started at a SNF, my orientation was 5 days and the pt ratio was 1:25.....
