I HAVE A JOB INTERVIEW! I am so excited, I just needed to share. It is at a children's hospital which is exactly what I wanted. I sent my resume and cover letter to the nurse recruiter in early May and instantly got an e-mail back stating they had just hired 3 new graduate nurses and even though they usually had jobs around this time with the economy nurses were staying on longer than usual. She mentioned if anything opened up they had my resume. I figured nothing would come of it but then 2 days ago I got a call! She wanted an interview. We scheduled it for Monday! It is my first "real" interview so I am so nervous. This is the job I was hoping for.. I just hope the interview goes well.
Also, quick question regarding my interview. I had several people lined up to write a letter of recommendation for me (they wanted to wait until I got an offer so they could tailor it to the hospital/specialty) and since my interview was such short notice I now only have one that my supervisor wrote for me at the end of last summer. It is a great letter but I am unsure if it would look bad since it is not recent. I knew waiting could possibly be a bad thing, I just hope I can stand out in other ways and/or they call and receive a great phone recommendation.
Sorry this was long, thanks for reading. Wish me luck! :)

i don;t think its pushy to call HR, it shows you are enthusiastic and interested in the position. they would never ding you negatively for calling to give them information (you tried to schedule the test earlier) or to ask questions (what did their message mean?) thats their job.
also, keep checking the schedule for test dates, things open up as people rearrange their test to accomodate interviews or put it off if they don't feel ready to take it. You might still be able to get something earlier. that said, don't push it too much just on the off chance that they are waiting for you. take the test when you feel ready. if you don't pass the job offer will be a moot point anyway.
but i WOULD stay in touch with HR and let them know your status. don't expect them to call you.
good luck
Hey! I didn't think anyone was still following. Well here is an update: I called today (after 3 weeks of waiting) and was told that although they "really liked me" the 2 positions were already filled. She told me that if anything else opened up I would receive a call. I am not holding my breath.
I got a letter from my current employers stating since I have graduated I will not be put on the schedule after September 30th. It is going to be tough if I get to that point and still do not have a job, living in Boston is not cheap. I know it is 3 months away but with the current job market it doesn't seem long enough.
Thanks for all the encouragement and I hope everyone out there looking has better luck.

First off, good luck goodstudentnowRN. :)
#1 My interview was not at all what I thought it was going to be like. I first met with the nurse manager. She asked me what I was doing as of now and told me about the position. I did most of the question asking. She didn't ask me any clinical related questions, like what would I do in a certain situation. We then went on a tour of the unit. After meeting with her I met with HR to discuss salary and benefits.
#2 I have tried to schedule it earlier but there is nothing available (I even tried where I am originally from but nothing!) I wanted to give myself time to study and to be honest I didn't think I would have a job interview so it never seemed to be a problem. I was thinking of calling HR, I just didn't want to seem too.. pushy. I really want this job though so I may just do it!
