First Job as a CNA

Published

Working in a nursing home!! Just finished clinicals a few months ago, and this is my first ever job (17).

I've heard that... working is different that clinicals. Like, you are forced to do things that you aren't comfortable doing, or that the staff likes to take advantage of me lol xD

Can you help me out? What is it really like for the newbie? Even for people working a while?

What I'm asking, what challenges should I expect working as a CNA?

Expect to look like a dork... lol.

And that's okay. You're new and will do things that will roll some eyeballs.

I remember when I was brand-spanking new and I had to wash male genitals in front of my preceptor.

I could have done it just fine, had I been alone, but felt so so so so uncomfortable with somebody watching me that I just couldn't do it!!

The preceptor gave "the look" and I was so mad at myself that I got over that issue really quick!

Just shove that steel down your spine and get yourself into the mindset that you must!

Yes, you probably will be taken advantage of, but once you catch on... well, no more of that!

Good luck!

Be strong, have confidence and just start chating with people..when I first started that's how I was and I've been at the same place for 5 years and I always would get along with most people..there's always going to be some people who will turn their nose down but remember we are talking care of people.

Thank you guys :) That actually did help me! I think I am prepared for it!!
