First FNP job: general or sub-specialty?

Published

Specializes in Cardiac, Home Health, Primary Care.

I tried to look around a but for this topic but didn't find much.

I will graduate with my MSN in December and will (hopefully) pass and get my FNP certification. My RN background is a decent amount of cardiology (was on cardiac step down and now in home health with CHF and pneumonia pts) which I really enjoy.

For a first FNP job do you guys feel it's better to get a few years of GENERAL practice in before going to a specialty area? I'm just trying to hear some pros and cons from people who have actually had some NP experience.

Thanks!
