First ever nursing assignment

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

So today I received the assignments I need to complete for when school starts in 2 weeks. At first I thought this would be plenty of time- but then read the first chapter I need to read and got totally overwhelmed!! I know it will take time and studying to understand the material but I feel like my brain froze up and I experienced my first true pangs of anxiety since I got accepted in March.

I've never been much of a studyer and I have a few ways I plan to try and study outside of just reading the chapters. But after that first chapter, I don't even know where to begin! I want to take notes that I can add to in lecture but I tend to overwrite and such. I want to try flash cards but again, same problem. Any ideas? Thanks for letting me rant :)

Try reading about one thing at a time. Look at how long the section is and break it down so it's less overwhelming. If you have two weeks to read 150 pages, read 15 a day. Also, NCLEX review books were my savior. They are a great place to gain a general understanding plus consolidate info. If your book has a companion study guide, get it. Mine did but my school didn't sell it so I ordered it for like $5 from eBay. It was great. Don't read too deeply into every sentence. Gain an understanding. I tested myself by trying to verbalize teaching to my teddy bear. He'd be a better nurse than me :-P
