As the first day of :nurse: nursing school :nurse: is quickly coming for many of us, I was wondering if any veterans could give a quick tip or two to help us on our way?

What should we take on the first day? Our whole book list or just a pencil and paper?

Is it best to make friends right away, or feel it out first?

We're so green we don't always even know what to ask. So if you have anything helpful, please share.

TIA!!!

Oh, that's a good question about which books to take. I have orientation tomorrow and Thursday, so I may ask while I'm there and come back here with feedback. There is only one person I'm already friends with who will be in the nursing program with me. Out of all the friends I made in pre-nursing, only one made it into the program. She's officially my person lol.

Have you checked to see if your school class has a Facebook page? I created one for my class and there are veteran students. That way we get program specific advice :D

This is a great idea. My nursing class made a Facebook page and its great for asking questions and planning get togethers.

As for your other questions, I didn't bring my textbook to the first day. I didn't think we needed it and we didn't. It is HUGE so I wasn't lugging that thing around all day. Definitely would bring your planner though. First day of class I sat there and transferred all the assignment due dates and test dates.

I think its REALLY important to make good friends in class. I was lucky and my whole class is very close. We really relied on each other during the semester. Nothing is better than being assigned a group project and actually ENJOYING the work because you know you can count on the other members.

I don't think there is a facebook page yet, I checked. Our orientation was back in April, so I really have no clue what we'll do other than probably go over expectations and intros and all that. I'm not really anxious or anything, just thought it'd be fun to start getting excited! I start next Monday and have been so busy this summer, I've kind of lost all my excitement in a blur of adult responsibility and vacationing. ;)

Hi Roverdew! I think we're in the same class....CPCC right? I'm so excited and anxious! I hope we don't need the main (and huge) book the first day. Mine won't arrive until Monday afternoon from amazon. But if we do, can I look over your shoulder? hehe. :-)

Hi! I'll bring mine just in case. ;) I'm also going to bring the dosage calculations book as it looks like something we'll probably hit up early on. I'm starting to get excited!! I plan to sit front and center if you want to chat when we have a break. I'm excited to get to know our new "family" for the next two years. :)

See you Monday!

I have that book downloaded on my ipad along with the others books... just not the Volume 1 and 2. I'll see you Monday. I'm usually not one to sit up front but I don't want to miss anything so I will!
