I had to skip my first day of classes yesterday because I woke up with strep throat and a fever of almost 103. I got an antibiotic shot from the dr and a note for my teachers. It just sucks that it had to happen on the first day of school. I have my first speech class tonight and I am still trying to decide if I am going or not. I will have to give an introductory speech. The dr said I shouldn't be contagious after 24 hours but my throat is so swollen that I can barely talk. This sucks!
I can relate. My first day of school last week, and I come down with a bad case of pinkeye. I went to the Dr that day, he gave me 3 days off work ( I work in an OR..a bad place for eye infections). The Dr cleared me for school, which didn't make the experience any better. I spent half the time dabbing my draining eye and praying that time would speed up.
I emailed my teachers and they were great about it. The assignments were posted on blackboard so I could still get my homework. The funny thing is that I was telling a friend of mine the other day that I have been really lucky this year and haven't gotten sick. I guess I jinxed it.
You will learn NEVER to say things like that, or go in and look at the assignments and say "Oh, it's quiet today" because the moment you do you will inevitably get slammed!
Don't stress too much, I am sure you will have no trouble catching up. The first class is generally taken up by admin stuff and general introductions. Just keep the professors informed about what is going on and htey are generally OK about such things.
Good luck.
