Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone will be in the Maryland/DC area this summer, or is there anyone that has traveled to this area before? I have accepted my first assignment in Bethesda, MD and any info would be great...Thanks!

I am from the DC/Maryland area. I started at University of Maryland in Baltimore Md. A little advice about my hometown:
Its a beautiful place to live. Bethesda is especially a nice area to be. But you can be in one area of town and it will be gorgeous, then two blocks down its the ghetto. So just be careful and be aware of your surroundings : )
Are you planning on taking the housing? If your not familiar with the area you definnitely should. Its a very expensive area to live and you don't want to end up somewhere you regret. Theres so much to do there so you definitely won't be bored. You will be about 15min to 1/2 hr from the major cities like DC, silver springs, etc. Traffic is a mess but its not as bad as california thats for sure.
Hope this helps some. Let me know if you have more ?s.

I did a contract in bethesda too, at suburban hosp. I was housed about 30-40 minutes away near Balitmore-about 15 minutes closer to d/c. It was awesome to go down with the kids since all museums are free there.
Thanks for the advice! I will be at Suburban Hospital and I am letting the company set up my housing for the exact reasons you mentioned...I don't have my address yet but I will update you when I do and you can both tell me what you think :) They have already told me the apartment will likely be in Rockville or Silver Spring. I am a little worried about the commute, should I look into taking the Metro to work?

My sister lives in Maryland and I visit pretty frequently. If I remember correctly, Rockville is really nice! Cute downtown area, lost of shops. Very expensive though, so I'm glad you've got housing. I hope you like it!
The metro would definitely be the smarter option as far as saving gas $ and the hassle of being stuck in traffic. But if you want to drive, it can be done. You just have to leave super early probably. Traffic is crazy everywhere but depending on which area your coming from it may be ok. I drove everywhere I went when I lived in the area. Personally I'm too lazy to figure out the bus schedules (lol) and I hate waiting on transportation. Are you working nights or days? Definitely do a dry run when you get there even if its a weekend you will still get an idea of how long it will take u to get to work.
I will be working Mon-Fri, 8am to 4:30pm so I'm thinking the traffic will be pretty heavy at those times :) I will be moving in 4 days prior to the start date, so I definitely plan on doing some dry runs to figure out the best way to commute. Thanks for all of the info!

I worked at Suburban last winter. I was housed in Silver Spring. Commute was 20 minutes. Peppertree Farms was where I stayed.
Just got my housing info today, my apartment building is The Veridian in Silver Spring

I also accepted a position in Bathesda MD and I will be starting the last weekend in June but I still do not know where I will be living.
Let me know when you start, will you be at Suburban Hosp? Maybe we can meet up after you get there. I didn't get my housing info until one week before my start date...
Sounds good and yes I will be at Suburban hospital on the MS floor.
