Dear Nurse Beth,
Is it possible to still get a job even after getting fired twice?
Dear Fired Twice,
I would say yes, with perseverance and maybe connections, and a bit of luck. But mostly with insight into yourself.
The hiring employer will not necessarily know that you were fired, as previous employers tend to just give job titles and dates of employment, but they will look at length of employment and employment gaps, which tell a story.
So if I looked at your resume and saw that you worked, say, 2 jobs in one year and are again unemployed, it would be a concern.
Did you choose toxic places of employment unwisely X 2? That would speak to your judgement.
Is there a pattern of behavior that is sabotaging your own success? Did you get fired for the same reason, such as time management? You can definitely improve your performance skills. Were you late to work or frequently absent? You can resolve to be more reliable.
I sincerely hope that you land a job, keep it, and someday look back at all this as a one-off or a rocky start. Other people have done exactly that, and you can, too. Your destiny is your own.
Best wishes,
Nurse Beth

Yes. Yes you can.
There are going to be rules anywhere you work. Once you find peace with that you will be a more attentive and valuable employee. Though you didn't mean to hit the patient with the cart, if you have an attitude problem to begin with, nobody is going to go to bat for you.

If you have been working for thirty years, you must have been doing something right. Truth is, age discrimination exists. It may be time to do LTC or home health. I would not go back to school at your age, unless it's a step-down to LPN, dialyses tech or phlebotemy. This is why you have to have an exit strategy from floor nursing. Either go up or go down at some point.
