to my knowledge, there are no double blind studies on flu vac. what I have read, the mort/morb stats haven't improved with increasing vac rates.....

Good day:

While I received my flu shot, and will continue down this path as long as it is required, I did find an interesting discussion between two doctors on Dr. Kris Held - Sunday, July 13, 2014 - Dr. Dave Janda where the CDC and the Obama administration is not pursuing the issue of anti-boitic resistant TB coming into our country along with other infectious diseases through illegal aliens yet require flu shots.

On a related but separate note, a family friend who provided volunteer chaplain services at a local hospital was recently told she had to get a flu shot plus specific vaccinations in order to continue her services (which involve no payment). When asked why, she was told it was to protect the patients. She asked, how come hospital visitors to the same patients are not required to get the flu shot and other vaccinations, zero reply. Now if the answer is to protect the patient, she raised a good question... friends and family coming to visit may or may not have their vaccinations up to date... so what's the real catch? My guess is that since America is a (unfortunately) litigious country, the real reason is lawsuits.

Thoughts?

Thank you.

None of your post has anything to do with healthcare professionals receiving mandatory flu vaccines.

1. I see that you provided no peer-reviewed scientific data on how undocumented immigrants are spreading "diseases" in this country or any other country. Diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosi... [int J Tuberc Lung Dis. 2008] - PubMed - NCBI The policy on treating immigrants hasn't really changed during recent years despite trying to blame the Obama administration. In the case of the recent surge of immigrant children these children are receiving their vaccines, medical screening, and effectively being quarantined. This still has no bearing at all on this thread, but I do see that you harbor an utter hatred for the Obama administration as most of your posts focus on the Obama administration.

2. A person that comes to visit a family member is mostly endangering their own family member if they are not properly immunized. A volunteer and/or healthcare professional sees multiple patients multiple times a week. It wouldn't be unusual for a healthcare provider to see a couple of hundred or more patients a week. It is easy to see why volunteers and healthcare providers can become important vectors for the flu.

This isn't about litigation. It is about public health. You cannot control every possible cause of transmittable disease, but we can control the most important vectors in preventing influenza which are healthcare professionals in the healthcare setting.

I work in Canada, and do not *think it is legal to make it mandatory? We only have a 40% staff vaccination rate, i think its about 30% in nurses. I know the NICU had less then 10% vaccinated. I don't think it should be mandatory, but do wish more would get it.

It is mandatory this coming year in our province- or wear a mask. I'm not concerned however, as I get one each year anyway.

Good day, wtbcrna:

" undocumented immigrants"

Do you mean illegal immigrants since they are not in our country legally? Meaning, they are criminals for breaking the law.

Thank you.

This is how they are referred to in most peer-reviewed scientific articles on disease transmission and immigrants so I chose the same terminology that makes a pub med search easier. I could care less about the political terminology, but just for you there hasn't been shown a difference in how people view undocumented/illegal immigrants no matter which term is used. Good day, wtbcrna:

"you there hasn't been shown a difference in how people view undocumented/illegal immigrants no matter which term is used"

Would the uninformed automatically connect undocumented to illegal? The latter clearly indicates the criminal status where the former gives the impression the party may have left their documentation (aka VISA) in the wrong place?

I did forget to say thank you on the good explanation on visitor vs. paid/volunteer worker. Thank you for clearing up that issue for me.

Thank you.

In surveys people still connected both terms together, and it still has absolutely no bearing on this thread.

Good day:

With regards to Dr. Kris Held - Sunday, July 13, 2014 - Dr. Dave Janda the bearing on the thread is you have the current events of illegal immigrants brining infectious diseases into our country (there are may be no peer reviewed articles because this is a current event), and at approximately 5:20 to 6:00 (less than one minute listen) you have the issue discussed of our healthcare workers being forced to have vaccinations as it relates to infectious dieases being allowed into our country brought by illegal immigrants.

Thank you.

Wrong and wrong again.

That has no bearing on this thread of why healthcare providers need to receive mandatory flu vaccinations. Had you looked at the peer-reviewed scientific article that I provided you would realize that what you presenting isn't a new topic at all, but one that is actually centuries old. Who do you think brought small pox to native americans (immigrants).

This issue has nothing to do with the current presidential administration and goes back to laws of previous presidents, and if you want to start a thread on that particular subject that is fine but it has no bearing on this one.

Good day, wtbcrna:

If I understand you correctly, the current border crisis where illegal immigrants are bringing infectious diseases into our country is the fault of President Bush and past Presidents, but President Obama has absolutely nothing to do with the current border crisis?

Ok, reply understood.

Thank you.
