Finishing program but very hurt and disappointed

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Ok, so I have to vent. I am completing my LPN program next week. A classmate has just informed me that despite the fact that ALL of us have worked VERY hard in order to pass the program, only a select few will be receiving special awards. I can understand receiving an award for having the highest GPA. But to receive an award for being the instructor's favorite at clinicals? That is a bit too much. Throughout this year I have watched teachers pick on certain students and yet allow others to get away with just about anything. I am so hurt and disappointed with my school. I do not recommend it to anyone. Has anyone else experience this and if so, how do you move on and not be hurt? I really don't want to even attend our pinning ceremony.

I've been through a similar experience, dealing with favoritism and non professionals for the two years of the part time program. It makes things difficult, sometimes you go above to the program coordinator, and things don't get better, they get worse. Find yourself a good support system, don't do anything unprofessional, and finish the program. Get your pin, hold your head high, and move on. Things are not always fair, just develop the ability to look at things from the outside, realize that you have not necessarily made mistakes, and that people will be unprofessional because they want to.

When I worked in hospital unfortunately there is too much estrogen and a lot of politics. I was an amazing hard working CNA who got the crap end of the stick more times then i like to admit. Its not new news that clinical instructors like outgoing students willing to jump in and kiss butt... this doesn't mean you are any less of a student/nurse... let it go and be thankful the experience is over. If your only complaint is that you didn't get a "pat on the back" award... you had a great experience with your school!
