Finished with that first year of nursing school?

Nursing Students General Students

For those who have finished their first year of school, is there a subject/class that you wish you knew more about before your first semester? I would like to go into nursing school with a little bit of a head start or at least not being so "green" about some things. What would you suggest to a new nursing student to "study up on" before entering NS?

oh im completely done with all of my prerequisites. im just waiting on my acceptances or denial letters. so ive done the ap and micro, and all of the classes. good luck to you too. i understand your personal issues, my dad was just diagnosed with prostate cancer, but everything seems to be going okay. i hope everything works out for you and you will be in my prayers.

So glad you have all of those classes out of the way. Things will be much easier in that respect. Good luck and I hope you get your acceptance letter soon. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I would have gone ahead and learned my lab values and their high and low meanings. First semester it wasn't so much an issue on tests, but would have helped with clinicals. I'm am in the middle of second semester and we all were knocked on our butts that first test...lab values every where!

I would also recommend getting a NCLEX study guide book. There are tons out there but it helps you get teh feel of what questions will be like.

Good luck!

what nursing program are you in? where can i buy this book. i know exactly what you mean. my friend said its not like any other test you have taken. i know this my micro teacher made us do case studies as our final :/

You can get the book on Amazon.com. Once I find out if I'm accepted, I will most likely get one of these for summer reading.

Here's another one you might want to check out. It has more reviews about it.

thanks so much ICAN. hey i called tvcc yesterday and asked when the letters were going out just in case the date might have changed but they told me after spring break. so basically thats like three weeks from now. they are sending out transition letters now.

So that would mean possibly the week of the 23rd is when the letters would go out. The last 3-4 days I have been thinking about calling to see when they would go out. I'm so glad to hear that you did! What are transition letters?

Thanks for all the great tips everyone. I did receive my acceptance letter and will certainly keep all this advice in mind.

Grab this book: Test Success (Test taking techniques for beginning nursing students) by Nugent and Vitale. It's a GREAT book to help you get the gist of NS exams. I would also practice dosage calculations as much as you can.
