So I have a bachelors already, currently taking a&p1 and growth & devp now at summer school. In fall 08 I will knock out a&p2, chemistry, and nutrition. Leaving me with only microbiology and maybe pathophysiology to complete my prerequisites in spring 09.
My question is that most of the accelerated BSN programs that I'm currently looking into have their deadlines around August or November this year if I want to start around summer next year. So can I or should I apply to them even though I will not have all my prerequisites done by their dead lines, but I would have them done before their school start around summer next year? I know that the person who has all their prerequisites completed has an automatic advantage over me, but still, do I stand a chance or should I just wait and apply when I have all my prerequisites completed?
I hope this was not too confusingJ
By the way I am applying to schools in Texas if you were wondering.
Help?

Don't know specifics about Texas, but it is not unusual in Georgia to be admitted pending completion of pre-reqs. You just have to tell them when you plan to take the classes, then have transcripts sent upon completion. Good luck.

When I applied to nursing school I still had to take and complete statistics and anthropology....I got my acceptance letter in February.....I didn't even take my mid terms yet....it also pushed me to pass statistics since I was horrible in math. Now that its all over, I have no classes this summer and start with orientation Aug 12th......it may depend on the school. I would just ask...every state is different as well as colleges..some have a few years of a waiting list, some don't! Good LucK!

Your answers to this questions are likely to be school-specific, so make a list of the programs you are applying to and check their application policies, or email them. Some schools will not allow you to apply with several pre-reqs in progress, while others will allow you apply as long as you commit to having them completed upon the beginning of the program itself.
If they allow you to apply with pre-reqs in progress, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and do so. However, your chances may be significantly decreased if the majority of the applicant pool has finished the courses and if the pool itself is very competitive.
Good luck!

At my school you couldn't apply if you even had 1 pre-req not complete. And if you applied anyways, they wouldn't even consider it. They would tell you to finish the 1 pre-req and then apply the next year. And then toss your application in the trash. I know this because I asked if I could apply without all of my done and they gave a friendly but firm "No!" They said it wouldn't be fair to all the people who had theirs completed.

I agree, totally depends on the school...one I looked at, you had to have all sciences completed before they would even send you the application. But they didn't really care about the other gen ed type courses as long as they were completed before the program started.
Other ones I looked at, you didn't have to have any specific courses completed, as long as you would be completely done w/ your prereqs before the program started.
I'd say if they don't have definite classes you have to have done, and you'll be done by next summer anyways, go for it! What's the worst that could happen? They could say "no", but then just reapply, or apply elsewhere.

My school accepted me without pre-reqs, and have said I need to get a 3.0 GPA in them for my place (essentially a conditional acceptance). However, I applied for a grad entry program, so already have a degree and Masters and I know they said that based on my GPA in those they did not see me having a problem with pre-reqs, hence the acceptance. I guess it may depend on what your current GPA is, what you have studied etc.

Try anyhow.. My school's website says you must have pre-reqs finished before applying but found out that many of my classmates got in without finishing... and still to this day need to finish! It is school dependent as said above. I think you should get some face to face advice from the person that does the actual interviewing or the Dean... they are more informative and helpful that the receptionist that just rattles off the same info to everyone that calls or stops by.

Just like others have stated, it depends on the school you are going to. The college that I'm at now automatically accepts you into the BSN program, which is awesome. Even though I have a few classes to finish, such as A&P 2, you have a guaranteed spot in the nursing school. It's a good idea to either look on the school's websites or contact them to ask what their policy is...never hurts to ask. Good luck! :heartbeat

Hello All,
I am new to the forum. I am currently a special education teacher in Georgia wanting to move into the nursing field. I have been looking at some of the accelerated BSN programs and I am trying to plan accordingly. I have a few questions about schools and prerequisites. If anyone who has attended these schools/programs can provide me with the information that I am looking for, it would be greatly appreciated. Which schools require you to finish all of your prerequisite course prior to applying for the accelerated BSN program? I am specifically talking about (Georgia State, Clayton State, Medical College of Georgia- Athens CNL Program, Emory, and Kennesaw State). Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much.
Is this a school in Georgia? The one that automatically accepts you into the BSN program?
